Default Dish Network may drop NBC and ABC stations

It has just been announced that Dish Network may drop ABC and NBC stations starting March 1st and I happened to learn this while watching the news and I'm surprised that Dish Network has decided to do this to the people who have ABC and NBC channels on there. Hopefully Hearst will get this problem solved and bring ABC and NBC back to Dish Network soon just like Direct TV got it's ABC and NBC stations back

Dish Network is still working out a deal with Hearst but no word on when Dish Network will bring back ABC and NBC stations yet? It is surprising that Dish Network has dropped ABC and NBC stations because they are considered local channels that are important to people who have Dish Network. Has anybody who has Dish Network lost NBC and ABC stations and what's your view on this?

Default Heart

It seems Dish having non-stop issues with local stations.

Two of my stations, one owned locally fought with DISH then now WTAE owned by Heart is fighting with Dish.

I am sort of surprised my local company Atlantic Broadband even carries WTAE because it's in the Pittsburgh market not Johnstown/Altoona/State College.

ABB has already dropped Pittsburgh's KDKA years ago which really annoyed folks by claiming KDKA wanted too much money and we already had an in-market CBS.

I was mostly angry when we dropped WPIX by them claiming WPCW Pittsburgh already handled CW. I liked watching NY News but they did SYNDEX blackouts many times for local stations.

Though from what I can see of Hearst, it doesn't look like they are the most fun company ever to reach a deal with. Nobody can be as annoying as Sinclair and Nexstar I don't think though.

Madderest Cut the freaking cord!

Just drop your subscription and get yourself an antenna and use the money you save to procure your programming on home video. I's amazes me how many TV shows, movies and other programming I managed to accumulate these last ten years.

Umm... haven't we seen enough news about satellite companies cutting off stations and then reinserting them? Sounds like attempts to sell papers.

I just learned that Dish Network will be giving people a refund or credits as an apology for dropping ABC and NBC stations owned by Hearst. But still no word yet on the return of ABC and NBC stations to Dish Network

I have mentioned this story before, but I had a house around 1999 in North Mississippi near Memphis Tn., that came with the Dish Network equipment. Had lots of channels but no local stations. Funny thing though, a friend of mine and someone I lived with for a bit had DISH with the local channels. Annoyed the hell out of me. What made the situation worse was that I had no choice, there was no competition since I lived in a subdivision in a rural area, not to mention having that ugly dish thing on my roof.

I called them and wanted my local channels. Forget their explanation and was told to get "rabbit ears" antennas for my TV set. WTF? Went to Walmart and bought a pair and it still didn't work. Back then probably 95% of my TV viewing was from the Big Four networks. Again, this was 1999, back before there was really TV shows available on the Internet.

If and when I move back to the United States, I wont buy any TV package whatsoever. I would just get internet with wifi and connect my television and computer and go from there. My folks pay $100 a month for basically a lot of crappy channels which are mostly commercials and noise.

Ironically a television show called Star Trek, The Next Generation in an episode stated by Mr. Data to people from the 20th Century frozen and thawed in space that television basically died by 2040. Actually, I can see that with mobile devices, on demand programming, "free" content and everything else overthrowing the old, tired television format we have today.

But about DISH, I would have loved to have taken a 12 guage and shot that crap off my house and somehow demand another provider.

Dish Network still has no NBC or ABC stations but no date has been announced when ABC and NBC will reappear on Dish Network. It has been 26 days since this shocking surprise happened to Dish Network customers and hopefully Hearst will work something out with Dish Network so people can have their ABC and NBC stations once again
