Default Most unlikely sitcom couple?

This is a tough one, because I'd like to exclude certain obvious categories:

1. The paunchy schlub and the hot chick (King of Queens)
2. The old codger and the young chick (My Three Sons)
3. Interspecies (Bewitched, Mork and Mindy)

So what I'm getting at is chemistry or some such - what pair was the worst? The Girl with Something Extra is on Get TV in the morning, and find myself turning this on and within a minute saying, "How did they ever get John Davidson in a show with Sally Field? Did they even do a screen test?"

I can think of some worse pairings where someone was just a guest love interest on someone else's show, but for actual co-stars is there any pair that had less of a connection than these two?

Are you asking real life chemistry, or the characters? Would you accept Green Acres Lisa and Oliver? To me, they had nothing in common.

I think he means real-life chemistry, as a result of unfortunate casting. But I agree on Green Acres, in that Oliver and Lisa, the characters, were an unusual couple. One is a 60-something American idealist farmer, the other is a relatively young Hungarian immigrant socialite. As for their on-screen chemistry, however, Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor had some of the best of all time IMO.

The actors had great chemistry and the characters they were portraying had a sexual energy between them that was very unusual in a 1960's series. Outside of Rob, and Laura and Dick and Paula (He and She) I can't think of another sitcom in that era that you could say that about.

This is easy, the mismatch of all time (yet it worked in a spectacular manner):

Fred and Ethel Mertz (bald, pot belly, grump with lively wife 20 plus years his junior).

To me they seemed to have good sexual chemistry together! She was supposed to be much younger than him. She was beautiful, so of course he was really hot for her. But she seemed into him as well, and not just for his money and security! Like nowadays she would be considered a woman that was looking for a "Daddy figure"!

Not sure how you figure that Samantha and Darrin from Bewitched are an "interspecies" couple. She was human, yes a witch but she was human.

Ross and Rachel on "Friends" - I just don't think Rachel would be interested in Ross.

I've never understood how ANY woman could be interested in Ross! LOL.

No way Billie Bunker (Denise Miller) would be caught dead dating Gary (Barry Gordon) on A. Bunker's Place.

Niles and Daphne on "Frasier". Also, Martin and Ronnie from the same show.
