Okay story: in 2012 I got involved with a local organization that helps veterans. I did a lot, including working an entire weekend at the local fair trying to get money. I did a lot, as did my dad who lives in the area. We were the go to people, and my dad did many volunteer jobs for them and donating things like a new outdoor grill. About a year or so ago they started being mean because they were mean to a dear friend. I told them I wasn't getting involved in their squabble. Several started treating me horribly but I ignored. Around Christmas the person who started the organization blocked me because she made an incredibly racist comment and I said I really hate discussing things like that on the page. I'm still FB friends with a few of the others.

When my mother died, they did nothing. None of them came to my mom's funeral, none even sent a card or even a pm on condolence. Nothing. They didn't even post my mom's obit on the page. They treated us badly. On top of it they decided to do a fundraiser for this family. This family doesn't live near us, and has no connection to the town at all. They raised money for the family, even traveling the 100 or so miles to deliver it, yet claimed they couldn't go to my mom's funeral a block away! The family didn't have any tragedy, the mom decided she didn't want to work and the father was in the military (not sure if he still is). I created a gofundme to help with my mom's medical expenses and they of course deleted it from their page.

Yeah, they are bad people but you'd think they would have some sympathy.

Sorry you experienced that. I'd move on, say to h*ll with them, and find other organizations and folks who will appreciate you. These people surely didn't; their behavior was execrable.

Thanks. Yeah I quit working with them awhile back because of their meanness. I didn't get it at all, some dislike me because of the dumbest reasons (for instance a few were mad I didn't want to date a man with a child).

Sorry that happened to you. At least you know who your real friends are. Don't let their behavior discourage you from helping others and maybe joining another group later. There are still lots of good people in the world.
