What television shows have not stood the test of time? Here's a few of mine:

The Mary Tyler Moore Show - I can't pinpoint what makes this show dated but it just is

The Honeymooners- it was funny for its time , not so much these days

Many variety shows- Although I like variety shows, a lot of them are dated because of the pop culture references

Cheers - Its still hilarious as always , but what makes it dated is the fashion that was used in the show

Family Ties - Alex Keaton being the Republican poster boy and many mentions of then president Ronald Reagan just didn't sit well with me back then as a kid as I was too young to understand politics.

i agree i still enjoy a rerun of family ties every not and then for old times sake but overall it is very dated

Dukes of Hazzard
Family Guy will not age well because it relies on 80s and 90s pop culture.

True-- in fact, I had before purchased that "Classic 39" of The Honeymooners, and saw one disc's worth (8 episodes), and could barely find a laugh, it was so torturous. Fortunately, I gave it to my nephew Eli in Alabama, and he loved it (and probably still loves it).

Mary Tyler Moore was the Decades' Binge last weekend and although I do enjoy it, it is very dated. I can't put my finger on why either. I can certainly watch it, but it is not as enjoyable as it was back in the day (I was just starting high school when it premiered). Some shows I can "binge" on, but this isn't one of them. Same for "Three's Company".

That's true. Still there are a lot of kids that watch it and don't get the references.

Sometimes "dated" is a good thing. People (myself included) love that nostalgic feeling.

Generally, "dated" is a bad thing, because a show that is "dated" (or described as such) is not going to be re-ran on any channel or be made available on any streaming/VoD services.

Dated is not a bad thing for shows. There will always be channels and on demand to pick up shows no matter what they are. It's incredibly stupid to say that "dated shows cannot be shown on any network" IMHO.

Basically, EVERY show becomes "dated" eventually. That's just a fact. Aging is just a part of life, even fake TV life.

But always remember that everything old sooner or later becomes new again.

Every show that was made before 2017 is dated. "Dated" simply means showing your age. Even an episode made in 2014 or so will likely contain a joke or reference to something that applies more to the culture of then than now. But that's not a bad thing, as many have already stated, I think the best shows are dated shows.

"Outdated" is another matter according to the official definition of the words. Shows that age gracefully and hold up well in 2017 I view as timeless and those that don't are outdated. I Love Lucy, for example, is obviously dated (filmed in B&W, different clothes, no internet, no cellphones, etc.) but in no way outdated IMO. Overlooking the obvious you're left with a show you can still relate to and laugh at just the way people did 66 years ago.
