Default Season 1 Robert Stack Episode Updates

First off, if you haven't watched these original episodes, you may want to avoid this thread, due to any possible spoilers.

Secondly, I know many of these cases have been previously analyzed and discussed in other threads. However, I thought it may be useful to start a thread specifically dealing with the original Season 1 Robert Stack episodes.

I know they have tried to update many of these segments, prior to their release on Amazon. However, they obviously weren't able to update everything. Furthermore, some of these segments may be incomplete or missing what some may consider relevant or interesting information.

Maybe the original participants have passed away or been released and you want to share the information or website URLs.

While I am assuming these Season 1 episodes are in order of their original air dates, I think it would be a good idea to list the # of the episode that your update pertains to, based on the Amazon episode listing.

Of course, some may view this thread as unnecessary, but uninteresting threads die soon enough, so we'll leave it to Natural Selection...LOL

So far, I've made it through 3 episodes.

My Update, and inspiration for this thread, pertains to:

EPISODE 3
DOREEN PICARD AND SUSAN LAFERTE

The update at the end of the episode says that Raymond Tempest was convicted and later released. This is true. However, he was released because his conviction was overturned in 2015.

Obviously, he may very well still be guilty as the evidence, some related to DNA was not deemed strong enough to formally exonerate him. However, it's also feasible that he may have been wrongly convicted.

Whether or not you choose to take the evidence seriously is up to you, but I thought they provided interesting information that others may appreciate.

Donald Dagesse was more likely the perp but he died in 2011, so he basically got away with it.

I've seen the lost Dutchman mine segment on the DVD a few times. The Amazon version has a bit about someone posing as the son of the prospector who was found dead on the trail. I liked that bit that was omitted from the DVD.

I like the idea of finally having them and I like the streaming idea but I feel like you can't keep them forever the way you can a physical copy....at least that's what I fear about this. But it does seem worth it, its as good as any.

I feel the same way. Call me a fuddy duddy but I still like my physical media. I like to be able to actually touch my belongings.

Here is an odd bit...

I just watched the Kari Lynn Nixon segment. They included the update with New Kids on the Block, where people thought a girl in one of their videos could be Kari. As we now know, she was abducted, raped, and murdered so that turned out not to be her.

I found it curious they included that piece of the update since it obviously wasn't her. I'm not complaining (because I always love me some NKOTB ) but based on the fact that the Gulf Breeze UFO segment wasn't included (since that was a fraud) I'm just surprised they included that update as part of the story.

I was also surprised to see the New Kids on the Block update, but not because it turned out to be a false lead, but because I figured Filmrise might not want to deal with music rights issues and fork over the royalties to show NKOTB concert footage .

They didn't include the update piece which solved the case in the mid 90's. Instead they just used the text update which I wasn't a fan of.

Ha! At this point in their careers, I think any press is good press for the New Kids. I agree that FilmRise probably wouldn't pay a dime for that.

FilmRise: "New Kids, can we use your concert footage?"
New Kids: "Sure. Will you pay us?"
FilmRise: "No-oh-oh-oh-oh, no-oh-oh-oh..."

LOL!!!!

This wins the Internet. I'm done for the day.

But seriously, I think they probably included the NKOTB update for a few reasons. Love them or hate them, at the time Keri Lyn disappeared, NKOTB was one of the biggest bands on the planet. The fact that they were willing to appear on UM to plead for a runaway to come home is pretty awesome and a major score for the show and network. (Although don't get me wrong-- I was WAY more excited to see them interview Jon Bon Jovi and Henry Rollins in later years). I was *not* a big fan of the show as a youth if y'all remember, and I DO remember watching this update because I think they featured NKOTB in the weekly promo for the show. I'd be curious to see the ratings for that particular night. But like I said, love it or hate it, it's good TV.

Secondly, it really *was* a weird twist. Although it had nothing to do with what ultimately happened to Keri Lyn, it really was a coincidence to have a girl that really resembled her at a NKOTB concert...I could see them leaving that in simply for that reason alone.

Not to go way off topic, but I used to have a crush on Candace Cameron and have enjoyed the Netflix revival 'Fuller House' in all its cheesiness.

There was an episodes during Season 2 that centered on New Kids.

It 's somewhat humorous, to me anyway, to see these guys in their late 40s/50s and to think that their fan base is now firmly in middle age territory.

The EXACT same thing happened with my cousin back in the day. She was terrified of UM and refused to watch it, but the moment she heard NKOTB were going to be on the show, you can bet she tuned in!
