Roseanne was never nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show received 25 Emmy nominations over 9 seasons including multiple noms for the cast with numerous wins, yet the show itself was never even nominated. Why do you think this is the case?
Looking back at the various nominees through the years there was stiff competition from Frasier, Seinfeld, and Home Improvement, but even decidedly more obscure shows like Frank's Place and Brooklyn Bridge were able to eek out nominations. |

Maybe they were afraid she'd eat it.

I wonder why John Goodman never won one for the show despite being nominated so many times.
They certainly gave him a lot of material to submit that was Emmy worthy and he was/is seemingly well loved in the industry. Here are his nominations and his one win. John GoodmanPrimetime Emmy AwardAwards Outstanding Guest Actor - Drama Series 2007 · Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip Winner Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie 2010 · You Don't Know Jack Nominee Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie 1996 · A Streetcar Named Desire Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1995 · Roseanne Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Limited Series, Movie 1995 · Kingfish: A Story of Huey P. Long Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1994 · Roseanne Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1993 · Roseanne Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1992 · Roseanne Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1991 · Roseanne Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1990 · Roseanne Nominee Outstanding Lead Actor - Comedy Series 1989 · Roseanne Nominee |

I don't know about Roseanne Barr, but John Goodman definitely should of won for best lead actor at least once from 1989-1993.

Seasons 4 and 5 were definitely worthy of a nomination over Home Improvement. Those are some of the best seasons of TV ever made.

In actuality, she's not that good an actress. If you notice she is caught quite a bit taking glances at cue-cards.
She's a decent comedian but actresses?.....not really. Besides, she and Tom ruined Roseanne. |

In reality, some of the most emotional, frantic, groundbreaking scenes of the show were hers, and she handled them and performed them like no one else could. Part of the reason the show was so relatable and honest and real was because Roseanne wasn't an actress. And that made it great. |

You may not think so but I know so because I've seen so. She is caught quite often glancing off ...mostly to her right. I'm probably more in tune to it than most because I've seen it a few times so I've looked for it. This started to occur I'll say after she got her face lift. Her 'relatable' character changed greatly when she went from struggling wife & mom to a constantly yelling pissed off person. She stole most of the thunder. And 'ground-breaking' is something all together different. It was the quirkiness of so many of the episodes after Tom Arnold left. The over-the-top gay wedding of Leon -to- making her 'mother' gay are just two examples. It became unrelatable and there was zero continuity to this show. She tried to alter her 'family's' personalities way too much (main reason why Lecy left). Roseanne certainly IS an actress. She's scripted and she gets into character when on stage. Don't get that confused to when she 'performs' as a stand up (even tho she's STILL acting) Have you ever watched Roseanne Nuts? If so you can see how much better she is because that is NOT scripted (although it is outlined). |
