Default I felt bad for Beaver's friend Larry

I felt bad for Beaver's friend Larry

It seems like Larry's father was always beating him. The father never hit the sister, just Larry. And in today's episode, he beat Larry about the row boat, and even after the police officer told him that it was not Larry who stole the boat, that mean old dad still didn't apologize. Instead, he told Larry that "it was a lesson for next time." What a dick. Child Protective Services should have thrown his ass in jail.

Poor Larry.

I know!!! I love Larry! The poor chubby little boy! It seemed he was a "change of life baby" His Mother was older and I'm sure his Father was too! His Sister was much older than him as was his Brother, who already was married and had a child (as Larry said in another ep.) !

Back than it was "spare the rod and spoil the child" ,but poor Larry! Seemed his Dad was really "Old school",more strict than Mr. Cleaver being Ward was a younger man! And Larry's dad was away on business trips a lot, and Mrs. Mondello was alone to raise a little boy being a middle aged/ older woman already!

I LOVE Larry and I LOVE Mrs. Mondello, they were great characters! But if you think about it, it is sad for that little boy! Probably that is why he got so chubby, he found comfort in food having older parents and no siblings close in age to bond with!

I think The Cosby Show based Rudy's friend, Peter, on Larry Mondello. They have similiar looks and personalities (Peter was less talkative).

Poor little Larry! He was such a sweet little boy. I can't imagine ever wanting to hit him for any reason.

Yeah, Larry no matter how small amount the trouble, his dad hit him over it. Larry was lucky his dad went out of town a lot, and also Lucky that Ward stepped in to help Mrs Mondelo when her husband was away, since Ward wasn't a hitter.

I always hated Larry. Useless character in my eyes. He was just irritating. Did he even have a father? Maybe his mother was just hallucinating or something. You never saw his father, and he was "always away". Either they had a crappy marriage, or obviously something went wrong there. I'm glad he went away. I never felt sympathy for him and always wished more harm for him because he obviously was going down the road to a criminal record. Just my honest opinion.

Yes. A criminal record when he grows up. He's smoked, he's stolen a boat, he's manipulated, etc. There's a reason he wasn't in the 80s revival (actually, shouldn't say that because I've never seen it)

I think the show lost a little steam when Larry left. Actually, the show changed it's focus, because Beaver's friends became less interesting, and Wally's friends became more interesting.

I suggest you watch the show again and maybe your attitude will change.

Getting back to the OP, I feel sorry for Larry too. His parents never seemed to pay enough attention to him and he did suffer for their mistakes on many occasions. As a character he was really likeable and funny and I wish he hadn't just disappeared after early season 4.

Yeah, I really missed Larry when he left! He was my favorite of Beaver's friends!
