TV Craig Ferguson's "Celebrity Name Game" Canceled

Craig Ferguson-Hosted "Celebrity Name Game" Canceled after 3 Seasons
by Nellie Andreeva
December 2, 2016

Syndicated game show "Celebrity Name Game" will not continue beyond its current third season. The program, hosted by Craig Ferguson, is co-produced by Debmar-Mercury, which distributes it domestically, and FremantleMedia North America, which distributes internationally.

Tribune Broadcasting and the Sinclair Broadcast Group are the core station groups for the show, executive produced by Courteney Cox and David Arquette of Coquette Prods.

We’ve had a wonderful time producing Celebrity Name Game and we are exceptionally proud of its three seasons in syndication,” said Jennifer Mullin, Co-CEO of FremantleMedia North America.

While we are not renewing in syndication at this time, it is a format we believe in. We are thankful to our loyal audience, our celebrity guests, the incredibly talented Craig Ferguson, our partners at Debmar–Mercury and Coquette, and our crew — whose passion for this series has been unparalleled.

We’re incredibly proud of Celebrity Name Game and grateful to the terrific fan base that has supported the show for three seasons,” said Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury.

We thank everyone who has contributed to its run, including Craig Ferguson, the show’s extraordinary host who received two Daytime Emmy Awards in recognition of his talent, our amazing partners at FremantleMedia North America, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, their creative collaborators and the outstanding production team.

"Celebrity Name Game", which will complete its third season, is not doing too bad in the ratings; it is in the middle of the first-run syndication pack, most recently posting a weekly 1.4 household rating, up 8% and 0.7 in the key women 25-54 demographic. But the numbers were not strong enough to justify another year, which is the case for high-end strips.

The first two seasons earned Ferguson two consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards for best game show host.

Wow, I'm shocked. It's a good show.

I liked the concept of the program, but not the way it was hosted (it should had been more serious and pleasant).

I remember watching the debut episode of Celebrity Name Game when it debuted and what I thought of Celebrity Name Game was that it was similar to Password but with a Hollywood style using topics and words related to movies and TV and so I knew that I would dislike it. Another thing I noticed about Celebrity Name Game is that why did they choose Craig Ferguson to host it? When I first saw Craig Ferguson host Celebrity Name Game I thought he seemed alright but they could've had a star like David Hyde Pierce or Ty Pennington host it and that could've been better. But I wonder now that Celebrity Name Game is no longer gonna have new episodes made anymore GSN will finally get the chance to air Celebrity Name Game reruns on their lineup soon because it would be a good fit. But I hope Courtney Cox and David Arquette and their production company Coquette Productions comes out with another game show that will be just as great as Celebrity Name Game in the future

I watched a few eps. of "Celebrity Name Game" and didn't get into it.

I think Jane Lynch's "Hollywood Game Night" was the better of the "celebrity game shows".

This is somewhat of a surprise. My MyNetwork station kept upgrading its timelsot each season, from 8:30AM to 2:30PM to the primetime lead-in slot of 7:30PM.

I'm not a big fan of celebrities on game shows unless their playing with a normal person, like on $25,000 Pyramid.

I miss "Wheel of Fortune" having celebs on playing with normal contestants.

I agree with Mario500, it's a good concept but their execution of it not so much. I've tried watching it and liking it but it's just kind of boring and I think Craig Ferguson tries too hard to be funny.

Me too. I wonder why they don't do that anymore.

Celebrity Name Game is an okay show depending on the contestants. I hate when people say unimaginative things like "it's a black guy that plays golf."
