During Ron Howard's last season on Happy days, Joanie mentioned that she was a senior, then the following season, after Richie left, when She purchased the car she was still a senior, this was when Erin's hair was still long. Then the season after it when Erin got her haircut, in episode "Fonzie the Substitute", she was a senior again in high school.
I know that Chachi was dumb in the beginning when they wrote his character, but I didn't know Joanie was that dumb or the writers must be really clueless if they think that the audience didn't noticed, or at least I did. |

Perhaps the 3 years of the sitcom were meant to portray one year in her life.

Do you actually believe what you just said? This is a sitcom, and in every sitcom kids move up a grade not stay in the same for 3 years in a row. In real life people ages and characters on tv have to age too because the actors who plays them also ages. Name me a show where a character stayed in the same grade for over 3 year period. And what about the other characters, like Fonzie, Chachi, Richie and the others, 3 years in real life is 1 year on tv for them too?

Weren't Richie, Ralph and Potsie seniors for at least that long? It seems like it took a long time to get Richie to college.
The time continuum on the show is a weird thing. In the second season, there was an episode about the 1956 presidential race. So it would appear that first season a year earlier would have stretched back to 1955. So a 19-year difference between the actual year the episode was made and the year depicted. When the show ended in 1984, wasn't it supposed to be 1965? That's still a 19 year gap, so it was consistent in that regard. So if, over the course of ten actual years, the setting of the show also progressed ten years, how is is possible for Joanie to have stayed the same age for three years? That's pretty Twilight Zonish. And why was it that, in the later seasons, the show was taking place in the '60s, but the characters were dressed like the '80s?

as previously discussed in other threads, Gary Marshall has always maintained that time was merely a suggestion in the Happy Days world and it could be flexible depending on the needs of the writers at the time, and they basically just ignored any inconsistencies.

While we are on the topic of inconsistencies, I would like to mention the issue of Joanie and Chachie. When Chachie first developed a crush on Joanie, it was implied that she was, at least a couple of years older then he. However, later on it was implied that that they were in the same grade in high school! Throughout their time dating, all the way up to their wedding, there was no indication that it was a May and December romance. What do you folks think of this inconsistency?

Pretty much every show on TV. They don't care that 25 year-olds are playing teenagers, why would they care that 30 year-olds are playing teenagers? |

How long was Jenny Piccalo a senior? Seems like she was still in high school at least a year after Joanie.
