Biggest Sitcom Pet Peeves - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Mine is people entering another person's house without knocking on the door first!

It's just not believable. In my opinion it makes it hard to suspend your disbelief that you're watching a scripted TV show. And I'm not talking about people with gimmicks like Cosmo Kramer. Or even close family members. But pretty much everyone else knocks first in the real world. It even irks me when Ed Norton constantly walks into The Kramden's apartment unannounced without knocking.

I was recently watching an episode of Roseanne and The Tilden family walked into The Conners back door (in the kitchen) without knocking. The Conner's were in their living room and reacted no differently than if they knocked on the front door first!

I've seen this on the majority of sitcoms in all eras. Even when I was a kid, I figured it was to save time for more dialogue, but still! I can't stand it.

something that a particular person finds especially annoying.

It happened frequently on Everybody Loves Raymond when Frank and Marie kept barging in to Ray and Debra's house.

In my house it was somewhat like that. People coming into the house without knocking, but usually I did hear a Yoo whoo . I live on the second floor so I would hear people climb the stairs.

I don't like it when characters get dumber over time. Examples: Chrissy from Three's Company, Kelly from Married With Children, Synclaire from Living Single

Yeah, but I didn't mind that because it was a gimmick within the show. Like Kramer. Plus, Frank & Marie were at least close family members.

Just once, it would of been nice to see them barge in while Ray & Deb were having some alone time on the couch. That'll teach 'em to knock!

The "very special episode"-- common to shows like Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Full House, et al., it's when a show that's supposed to make you laugh tries to teach you a lesson, and such lesson seemingly drowns out all the comedy.

I hate it when a TV show's timeline gets messed up & the show's writers don't stick with the details.

The fish out of water bit annoys me to no end I mean even the most isolated backwoods hick knows about doorbells and billiards.

Leave It To Beaver did this too, Ward and June buy the boys a dog at the end of the alligator episode, then we never see or hear of the dog again.

Diff'rent Strokes was the worst at this. It seemed like every other episode was a dramatic two-parter.

Only thing I hated more with very special episodes was the writers remembering at the last second "Oops...this is supposed to be a sitcom", and inserting an uncomfortable joke in there.

Other pet peeves:
-Tired plotlines (amnesia, two dates on the same night, the family getting involved in a get rich quick scheme)

And you didn't mind people walking into your home without knocking first?
