Sad Actor Ron Glass (1945-2016)

Link

Ron Glass, who played stylish and sassy NYPD detective/aspiring author Ron Harris on ABC’s long-running sitcom Barney Miller, died on Friday, a spokesperson for the veteran actor has confirmed for TVLine. He was 71.
No further details have yet been made available.
In addition to his role on the Emmy-winning workplace comedy, Glass portrayed the spiritual Shepherd Book on Fox’s short-lived sci-fi drama Firefly (as well as its big-screen follow-up, Serenity). His lengthy resume also included fellow one-and-done programs including The New Odd Couple (in the Felix Unger role), Rhythm & Blues, Mr. Rhodes and Teen Angel, as well as guest appearances on All in the Family, Sanford and Son, The Streets of San Francisco, Amen and Friends. In recent years, he appeared in episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Major Crimes and CSI.
Glass’ prolific career also included voiceover work, having been featured on Rugrats (and its spinoff All Grown Up!), Superman, Aladdin and The Proud Family.
Glass’ Barney Miller castmate Abe Vigoda died earlier this year, at age 94.

His best work (at least IMO) was Barney Miller, and that is in full on DVD from Shout!, thankfully, so no worries there.

Ron Glass, one of my biggest crushes; he was all I chatted about back in 2003-2004 on Sitcomsonline. I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing.

I always liked Ron Glass. He had a dignity and class about him that isn't seen often. My condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad and shocking! He was too young ! I will always remember him as a very nice looking gentleman and a fine actor!

RIP Ron

So sad to learn of Ron's passing. Barney Miller is one of my favorite shows and he was a highlight with his snappy comebacks and stylish appearance. He'll be greatly missed.

I just saw him a while ago on an old Friends. He played the judge in 2 shows when Ross got divorced.

Ron Glass. Besides Barney Miller, Firefly and the follow-up movie Serenity are also available on DVD. One of his most unique roles was on "Teen Angel" where his character was a depicted as a giant floating head. It is a tribute to Mr. Glass's skill and craft as an actor that he was able to make even that character real and believable.
