Default Batman - Sitcom Or Drama?

Whats your opinion. I sort of consider it in the middle but more towards a sitcom or a melodrama. What do you guys think?

Holy definitions, Batman!

I would have to classify Batman as an "adventure series."

Okay...

I am assuming that you are talking about the Adam West/Burt Ward series of Batman.

COMEDY... no doubt about it... Sitcom all the way.

The show was a spoof. Spoofs are comedy.

WAM! BANG!! BOOF!!!

Yeah I think of it more of comedy, too and adventure as well. I wonder if once some marathons are shown on N@N and TVLAND the popularity of it on the boards will grow....I hope so.

We all know Batman was a show with tongue firmly planted in cheek. It was a spoof of comic books.
But...
All characters (I'm talking about the good guys here, not the over the top villians) played it 100% serious. They weren't playing for laughs.
Plus, there was no laugh track.
While it could be classified as a comedy, it isn't a sitcom, in the traditional sense.

Yeah I agree but it was meant to be a little funny. If the popularity gets bigger because of the upcoming marathons I hope we can talk about it in its own forum....maybe someday.

They got into situations and they were comical so I'll go along with sitcom. It is a good question though.

I think we have the same type of problem when we come to
try and categorize other Superhero shows like Lois And Clark
and Wonder Woman. They all could be considered part adventure
and part comedy.A show like Mutant X or Smallville on the other
hand is not so hard to pin down as they are definitely straight
drama/action series.

Thats kind of hard to Judge, I agree that Batman was a spoof, but in my point of view, I'd have to say it is a Cult-Classic.

Technically it's action/adventure, but nowhere near a drama. Anyone who's seen a few episodes should notice right away that practically every line was played for laughs. The deliberate over-acting, the mock-serious but over-exaggerated facial expressions, the outrageous plots (even by '60s standards), and the cliched morals (always buckle up, always obey traffic signals, etc.) Batman would mention, all point to a comedy, albeit a unique brand of comedy. It almost comes across as a parody of the comic book series.

That being said, it was a really great show and the writing was fantastic, even genius at times. It provided a reliable source of laughs despite not being a conventional sitcom.

Wow, really? I never heard that either. I guess that should settle the debate though.

A comedy no doubt. The heroes played it straight while the villians were way over the top. It in the 60s and this was portrayed as camp and not to be taken seriously.
