Holly Dunn, a well-known voice in country music in the 1980s and ’90s, has died following a battle with a rare, very aggressive type of ovarian cancer. She was 59 years old.
Nashville TV station WSMV reported the news of Dunn’s death around 7:30AM ET on Tuesday (Nov. 15), noting that Dunn had passed away in the early morning hours. According to the news outlet, funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.

Born on Aug. 22, 1957, Holly Suzette Dunn — the sister of Nashville songwriter Chris Waters — performed in bands during high school and college, then moved to Music City. She worked as a demo singer and songwriter before signing with MTM Records and releasing her first album, Holly Dunn, in 1986. Throughout her career, Dunn released nine studio albums and earned a number of Top 40 country hits, including two No. 1s, “Are You Ever Gonna Love Me” and “You Really Had Me Going.”

Dunn retired from country music in 2003; in a recent interview, she shared that she was no longer writing music and only occasionally sang at church, preferring instead to focus on her artwork.
“I left the business because it was clear that radio had moved on and wasn’t interested in anything new from me. Without radio’s support, it just gets harder and harder to keep the wheels turning in a music career,” Dunn explained. “I was still in my early 40s [at the time] and had a lot of other interests, and wanted to put my creative energy into pursuing the field of fine arts … I also had a love affair for the southwest, namely Santa Fe, [N.M.], and had always wanted to live out there. It just seemed like the right time to close out one chapter and start another. I pretty much left Nashville and never looked back.”

In that same interview, published in June, Dunn revealed her ovarian cancer diagnosis. At the time, she’d undergone surgery and was having chemotherapy treatments, but more tumors had appeared.
“I have a huge faith in the healing power of God and the healing power within me that originates from my God,” Dunn said in the interview, adding, “Being a Christian, I know that no matter how this chapter ends, I will be okay. Either upright walking on this earth or safe in my Savior’s arms.”

My mom used to like Holly Dunn's song Daddy's Hands because it really shows how strong a father's love can be for their daughters and this song along with the Donna Fargo song Funny Face ranks as the most wonderful country songs that all fathers ask to be played at weddings for first dances. My mom and I thought Holly Dunn had a wonderful singing voice and she had an amazing talent as well

Holly Dunn, age 59, walked off into a beautiful southwestern sunset hand in hand with her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2016. Dunn was born on August 22, 1957 to Yvonne Katherine Campbell Dunn and Franklin Jerome Dunn, Sr. in San Antonio, TX. Holly had been battling a rare form of ovarian cancer since February 2016.

This native of San Antonio, Texas burst onto the country music scene in the mid-1980s, with a self-penned tribute to her preacher father called “Daddy’s Hands”. The song earned Holly’s first two Grammy award nominations and set her off on a whirlwind career. Over the course of the next 20+ years, Holly racked up three Grammy award nods, the Academy of Country Music’s “New Female Vocalist” award (1986) and the Country Music Association's “HORIZON AWARD.” (1987) In 1989 Holly was inducted into the famed Grand Ole Opry cast and was also awarded “SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR” by BMI.

Along the way, Holly hosted her own radio show on WWWW in Detroit, Michigan (1997), and for two years (1998-2000) was host of TNN’S “OPRY BACKSTAGE” weekly television show.

Holly toured the world extensively throughout her career. She recorded 10 albums, and achieved at least top ten status for 14 of her singles, reaching the coveted number one spot four times. “MILESTONES,” her greatest hits package, was certified Gold shortly after it's release in 1991.

Holly’s talents did not begin and end with music. Because her mother was a talented oil painter, Holly grew up with a natural love and talent for making fine art as well. To that end, in 2003 Holly kept a long standing promise to herself and walked away from the music business to pursue her passion for art.

She joked in interviews throughout the years that she only made music to pay for her art supplies. Holly worked in pastel and mixed media with her favorite subjects being the icons and architecture of the great Southwest.

Holly will be celebrated on Friday with visitation at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, TX from 5-7 PM. Her celebration of her life will be at 1 PM on Saturday at Salado United Methodist church in Salado TX with burial following at the Salado Cemetery.

She is survived by her spouse, Dr. Melissa L. (Missy) Taylor; her three brothers, Dr. Franklin Jerome Dunn, Jr. and wife Connie of Irving, TX, Rodney Paul Dunn of Temple, TX, Christopher Waters Dunn and wife Nissa of San Antonio, TX; and numerous loving nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends and friends that are family.

Holly's family asks that anyone planning to attend the service on Saturday please wear bright colors as they were her favorite.

^^^ I know that there's a chance that I may not have a lot of company here, but I can't see the Lord being okay with such a life style when he is the one who labeled it an abomination. I believe that if such a way to be really had been his intention, he never would have had a man plus woman be the only way for a baby to be created. He never would've created a woman at all period...only another man.
