Did anyone see the CMA awards show this past Wednesday night? To me the following were the low points of the show.
Dixie Chicks Carrie Underwood Kasey Musgraves Kelsi Ballerini Maren Morris Miranda Lambert was the only Female Artist of the Year award nominee that I care for, so I wish that she had won that award. Also to me, Cole Swindell should've gotten the Best New Artist of the Year award if it couldn't go to Old Dominion or Brothers Osborne because Cole has more songs on the radio than the other nominees. Maren winning with only two songs on the radio right now in my opinion is bull crap and so is Little Big Town getting the Group of of the Year award again when they have not had a big song in over a year now. The competition for that award to me was between, Rascal Flatts, Old Dominion, and the Zac Brown Band who are overlooked every year. Why was Beyonce there when she isn't even a country act? Her appearance was with the Dixie Chicks. If her being there was the only way that their appearance was going to happen, that right there should say everything that we need to know about how they look at country music. To me, if they can't show any respect, they shouldn't expect any in return and I think that they have proven well over the years that they do not have any when they have done nothing but trash one country act after another: Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Trace Adkins, Joe Nichols, and Jason Aldean. God bless you and those who sing country music and respect the music always!!! ![]() Holly |

I thought it was a great show honoring 50 years of history. I was raised on country music and have a deep respect for it.
My favorite performances were Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, and Tim McGraw. Beyoncé should've never been there and if she just had to be there she could've at least wore something decent. Just trashy. I didn't mind seeing the Dixie Chicks. I actually like their music but don't stand behind their politics. Awesome to see Randy Travis! Dolly! I love Dolly Parton...now, she's a true class act! |

I couldn't possibly disagree more. Miranda has won the award enough times to date, and Carrie is far and away the better singer. Since the award is for Female "Vocalist" Carrie is more than deserving.
As for the Dixie Chicks, they owe the country music industry absolutely nothing. The industry acts like it cares about America so much, but it couldn't show more hypocrisy if they tried. Um, hello, freedom of speech, anyone? It turned its back on one of the most talented acts in the history of country music for a harmless comment. Not to mention the Chicks opened the door for country radio to freely bash our current President without any repercussion. So yeah, they owe the industry nothing at all. As for Beyoncé, I'm glad the Chicks got the chance to perform with her. They played that song all summer long on their highly successful tour, and according to Natalie, her album was the backstage soundtrack to the tour. Who cares if she's not country? She has the ability to bring more interest to the genre. It makes me think of Martina's last tour where she talked about how great the old days used to be when it was pretty much genre free. Patsy Cline could be played on pop radio, Ray Charles could be on a country station, etc. Now everything has to be so segregated and if it's not, people flip out. That's why I've pretty much had my fill of commercial radio in general. On a separate note, I was so happy for Lori McKenna's win. She is one of the most talented singer/songwriters in the history of the music industry and finally deserves this recognition. |

Bro-country is one of the worst trends in music. It's pretty much pop music with a twang, with the same lyrics sung by male singers who all sound alike. My mom had on our local country station the other day and after about 5 bro-country songs, they played Trisha Yearwood, and I thought now that's when modern country was actually tolerable and listenable!

Crystal Gayle needs a longer tribute than Trisha Yearwood doing a so so version of "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue". (No offense to Miss Yearwood, she just didn't sound that great on that song.)
She was a HUGE star in the seventies and eighties but doesn't get the respect today she deserves. I am not sure why she is consistently overlooked.

No I was busy watching the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Country music sadly is a joke nowadays and I'm glad I missed it. With them allowing the Dixie Chickens, um I mean Chicks to infest the show I don't think I'll be watching the CMA awards ever again.

^^^ Amen to that! I can't count the number of acts who deserved that performance slot more than they did there are so many to name.

^^^ If I remember right a lot of their scheduled tour dates that took place after the incident were cancelled because not enough people wanted to see them. How can that be labeled a successful tour?
God bless you always!!! Holly P.S. I already said that the industry doesn't owe them anything either, so I am guessing that the only reason why they were even thought of in the first place is because at the end of the day, their CMA award winning history can't be re-written. The future however is another story and in my opinion there is no place in country music for people like the Dixie Chicks if all that they are going to do is trash those who have made country music the awesome music that it is. |
