Default Why do people complain about sitcoms they dislike if...

They aren't going to watch them or if they are just watching it to poke fun of/at people that like the sitcoms?

I think it's very insulting and rude and bullying, and it needs to stop. If you don't like a sitcom, fine, don't take it out on the people that do and above all you shouldn't make boards on that said show board because you hate it. For those people who do it, you should really stick to the sitcoms you love and post on THOSE boards and stop bullying and pestering people!

Talking about sitcoms is not insulting, rude or bullying. We are all entitled to our opinions about TV shows, good or bad. I guess if we aren't allowed to express our opinions we better tell the Critics that make their living from this.

The definition of a bully: use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.

Just because I don't like a show doesn't mean I'm trying to force others to hate it too so it's not being a bully.

The definition of Insulting: disrespectful or scornfully abusive.

I had high hopes for the new show with Kevin James but to me it's just not funny. I'm not being disrespectful or scornfully abusive by stating that which is true for me.

The definition of Rude: offensively impolite or ill-mannered.

Again....I'm honest, I state my opinion. We are all entitled to our opinions. I don't curse and I don't attack other people by calling them a bully or telling them they are insulting and rude. I actually respect the opinion of others even when I don't always agree.

Life is far too short to get so upset over the little things. My husband fought cancer and kidney failure and he won the battle, it really puts things in perspective!

I try to remember this saying, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff ... and remember it's all small stuff. Have a blessed day!!

Yea we are entitled to our opinion and just a way to have fun here. And people head of the networks should know better then to put out some of the junk that is on. After all, they work for the networks. And if we don't give our opinions they how will people know what we like or don't like.

I guess I mean the people who are generally rude to other people: "Oh that show is TRASH lol" and so on and generally verbally bullying other people on this board because they like it. To me it just isn't necessary.

That's not bullying. I agree that some members could find a more gentle or diplomatic way to express their opinions though. Making a statement like that might be considered trolling (depending on the user's history):

Trolling - make a deliberately offensive or provocative online posting with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them

Examples of bullying would be:
A member calling another poster trash because they like a certain show.
A member "following" another member around the board and negatively commenting on every post they make.
A member sending another member harassing private messages.
A member trying to publicly embarrass another member.
A member creating a fake account to impersonate someone else.

I can only say that its usually nothing personal to the people who do enjoy them, its just a way of blowing off steam.

But I generally avoid bashing shows I don't like because then you are accused of being a troll or a troublemaker.

I try to be as diplomatic as possible. But its hard sometimes for instance when you like a show initially but it jumps the shark and goes downhill and you want to comment on that particular aspect of it.

Me personally were I to comment on a show forum about my dislike, I would tend to couch it gently & diplomatically. But I rarely go on to forums for shows I dislike and only occasionally on ones I could take or leave.

It really depends on how someone states their opinion. Example: someone asks what you think of their dress- you could say "it doesn't truly do you justice" rather than" it makes you look like a clown"

I've inquired here before, but received no reply, if the various forums are supposed to be all-positive.
I do know that if you go on the One Day At A Time board and say anything remotely negative about the show, Opus will send people to your house.

Noooo that only happens when you say anything negative about Valerie Bertinelli. I'm safe in the regard...

Yeah I know a certain someone who LOVES to spam up the One Day at a Time threads (or used to; not sure) with absolutely NOTHING related to the show... I won't say their name but they are a useless poster...

True. One can insult Ann, Schneider, Julie, whoever, it should be fine. But go after you know who, and yeah, I have a few hitmen on speed dial.

(Just don't badmouth Max, or you'll find Bonnie kicking down your front door.)

If everything's done in a civilized manner then I think dissenting opinions should be welcome. Not everyone's the same and what appeals to one may be boring or distasteful to another. In theory these disagreements should fuel discussion about various aspects of the show, its good/bad points, etc. which is one of the reasons SitcomsOnline was created.

I know generally, a board is visited by devoted fans who hold it in high regard, but what better way to show your appreciation for a show than to explain its greatness to someone who doesn't get it?

Of course this is all assuming the poster isn't a troll, looking for trouble just saying random inflammatory things or making personal attacks.
