Default Why are the Hecks so poor?

since both mom and dad work and mike has been foreman for quite a while at the quarry you would think between them they would make enough money to at least be comfortable. figuring on the real low side say 50 thousand dollars a year between them. they have a mortgage, but nothing else major to pay. the kids college is paid for, crummy cars, no new stuff in the house and if mike can sell his half in the diaper business for 20 thousand there must have been a little money coming in. i know it makes for a better story line but just saying i think they wouldn't be hurting so much for money.

Is Frankie still a dental assistant?

Funny, I was just thinking about this the other day. I remember Sue seeing Mike's paycheck one time and she was surprised and upset about how little he made, but quarry foreman and dental assistant both sound like good paying jobs to me.

Absolutely.

I thought it was kind of unrealistic for Mike to sell that business and fork over that large amount of money just because Sue was irresponsible with the financial aid renewal.

Why couldn't Sue have just gone to a local community college nearby until they straightened out her financial package and then re enrolled in a semester or two? Or maybe just took a semester off to get a job and live at home?

Why didn't Mike consult with Frankie before making that big decision?

Sue would have understood that this whole thing was her fault. She is not a baby who needs to be coddled when things don't go her way. This is sending a bad message here about personal responsibility.

As gracious as Mike's gesture was it just rang false given their supposedly humble circumstances.

At the very least though it was nice to see Mike act more energetically like he was with the bursar. He is so laid back and laconic most of the time he comes off as kind of boring. It was good to see this other side to him.

I would kind of like to see a show where they decide to upgrade something (their house, or whatever) and then decided that they like their life the way it is. Hmmm...NaNoWriMo is coming in a few weeks and I need to start writing fanfic again. I'll keep that in mind...

But seriously, if they were rich the show wouldn't be as good as it is. Sometimes it's annoying how they complain about not having much money, but it's a nice change from all the other shows out there.
