Here is what i did in 1988-89...
My mom would go downstairs to wash clothes if need be, while i'd turn on the TV to the NBC station to watch reruns of the medical drama St. Elsewhere. While watching St. Elsewhere, i might be looking at one of those Disney books i had back then. then the game shows would start: Sale of the Century, Classic Concentration, Wheel Of Fortune and Win Lose Or Draw. then the news would be on and then either there was a soap opera or game show(the game show was on NBC i think it was Scrabble?) then the soap operas would get going. My mom would insist that she watch her "stories" which were on ABC, even though i was a bigger fan of the NBC soaps. Another show i'd watch in syndicated reruns was Little House On The Prairie. Other favorites in daytime: Sesame Street The Joy of Painting(i found this to be dull, but i loved it. I learned how to paint from watching this show) Nighttime favorites: TGIF China Beach Our House Punky Brewster(i hated it when NBC would preempt this show for football. It made me mad to no end!) Saturday Morning favorites: The Smurfs Ghostbusters Garfield don't have anymore right now. |

From what I remember circa 1984-1986 growing up as a kid.
Luckily in my household we had 4 television sets so there was no problem of missing a program because somebody wanted to use the TV set. Weekdays after coming home from school it was cartoons Transformers, G.I.Joe, Robotech, M.A.S.K, WB Looney Tunes. I never liked Scooby-Doo, even back then I knew Hanna Barbera shows were cheap and crap. sitcom reruns of Three's Company, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts Of Life, Silver Spoons. weekday evenings were a sporadic mix of sitcoms The Cosby Show, Who's The Boss? Mr. Belvedere, Webster, I wasn't really big on the adventure dramas like MacGyver, Riptide, The A-Team. shows that could never get into and to this day still detest with a passion were Family Ties and Growing Pains. |

as far as reruns, i'd watch St. Elsewhere, The Facts of Life, Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Wings and a few others.

I also would watch a few other shows during the day- for example, there were the courtroom shows, like Peoples Court, Superior Court and a few others. for a short time in the summer of 1988 i'd have to pick between watching reruns of St. Elsewhere or watching Superior Court. Talk about having to choose between two shows at once! Andy Griffin was on the UHF station too at the same time(9:00) too.
I saw St. Elsewhere late one night on WPIX- it must have been in the mid-90s. |
