Whenever "Serena" appeared on an episode, the closing credits showed that she was played by Pandora Spocks. Of course, that was Elizabeth Montgomery herself who played as Serena, and she just made that up.
I don't get it. Why was that so? |

It was a little joke, they wanted it to look like Serena was a separate person instead of Liz Montgomery playing the role. Also the name Pandoras Spocks is a play on Pandora's Box--a classic story of a woman who opened a box the gods told her not to, and let all the woes of the world out except she closed the box in time to keep "hope" from getting out.

Thanks cablejockey- I just now found out "Pandora's Box"......after I started this thread (and prior to your message). But thanks anyhow. That's interesting!
I am surprised that Liz was able to get away with that- I would think that the audience should know the truth about who the actors are behind the characters. But it's all good- I think it's creative. Funny thing is that even before I found out about the non-existent Pandora Spocks, I was somehow always suspicious that it was Liz Montgomery who played as Serena. |

It's like on All In The Family, when Jean Stepleton played a dual role, it was obviously her but she was credited as Giovanna Pucci, a play on her name, Giovanna is Italian for Jean and Pucci is roughly the equivalent of her married name Putch....why they do this I'm not sure

Interesting. I've seen about half the eps of "All in the family," and I wasn't aware that Jean Stepleton played a dual role. Who is the other character she played as?

Klemmer the butcher's fiancee. He was once in love with Edith and showed up with a fiancee who looked just like her (Stapleton in the dual role)

It's possible that I've seen that ep, but I just don't remember it. Believe it or not, I can remember watching some of All in the Family when I was about 4 years old. That's about the age I was during it's first run in the 70's. Of course, I don't remember absorbing what the eps were about then, but I sure as heck remember the opening theme song with "Archie and Edith" singing and playing the piano.
Gee- I had no idea what racism and ignorance were at that age...too bad I didn't stay that naive
