Default So shocked and disappointed to find out that Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford was..

not in NYC when they were shown in the opening credits of the Jeffersons riding in the cab. All these years I thought they were riding through Manhattan and then believe the building they walk into was a building in NYC

well guess what? It wasn't

They were in a cab in Santa Monica and the building they stops in front of once they get out of the cab was also in CA. So all these years I want to visit that building in NYC because I thought sherman and Isabel walked inside

So now it's no point in seeing it because it was just a random high rise apt building they decided to put in the opening credits from NYC.

I found this out in a old article when Damon Evans(2nd Lionel) was told that they were not in NYC when they get out of the cab.

Given the subterfuge of television, I'm not surprised; but it would have been cool had the budget sprung for some actual NYC footage, at least for the opening credits.

It's weird because the Odd Couple opening was filmed in NYC

Bob Newhart was in Chicago

Mary Tyler moore was in Minnesota

So that's why that Jeffersons Apt building in NYC means nothing to me anymore lol

It's a bit of a disappointment! It's not like Hollywooders never venture to the Big Apple. Maybe the network didn't have much faith in "The Jeffersons" to start, so wouldn't foot the bill for any true location filming? Or maybe the producers wanted to get the pilot and opening in under-budget? It would be interesting to know.

So? In TV they substitute one location for another all the time. I don't know why it matters so much.

You know what else? Those actual real life outdoor locations you see in Star Trek episodes really aren't alien planets either. But are filmed right here on Earth.

Ed.

But Mr Ed really talked and Sally Field really flew, right?
