Default Progress finally made on old cases

It is remarkable that there have been new developments in several old cases over the last few months. Grateful Doe has been identified as Jason Callahan, Jacob Wetterling's killer has confessed and now Kristin Smart's remains have been found. It gives me hope that other, long-cold cases will eventually be solved.

What other cases would you most like to see resolved?

I know at some point Christophe day's sister was on this board saying that it was possible her brother didn't die,and she and her father were going to go to france and investigate. I would love to know if that were the case. I would also love to see the case of Father Kerrigan solved

Lisa Ziegert. It takes a very special person to be a special education teacher in a middle school like she was. Don't even get me started on how if teachers were paid a decent wage she wouldn't have had to take a part time job in a card shop.

I just want to stress that we're not sure that Kristin has been found. Tests are still being done on the remains found to figure out if they're from an animal or human. But I'm hopeful that they are so her family will finally know.

Absolutely agreed. I was thinking about her the other morning. She's now been gone for as long as she was alive (24 years). I didn't know her, but the segment does a really good job of showing how special she was. It really was a beautiful tribute to her. You could tell from the interviews that she was a really lovely woman who had touched so many lives.

It's infuriating that such a promising person's life was cut short, especially in such a brutal way. I feel so horrible for her family, friends, and students. I hope that there will be justice someday.

If we are talking about strictly UM cases that I'd like to see solved, my vote goes to Chaim Weiss. I've always been completely perplexed by that case.

As far as non UM cases go, I'd like to know what happened to Brian Shaffer.

OMG. Have you and I had a side conversation about Brian Shaffer? Because, yeah. WTH happened to him? He is definitely on my personal list of cases I'd love to see get closure. Also, Brian Barton, who was profiled on an episode of Disappeared. And of course, Maura Murray.

Angela Hammond comes to mind, her and Cheryl Ann Kenney. They are deceased, unfortunately, but if their remains can be found, and the killer(s), then their families can at least have something to bury and have some closure.

The one about Lisa Ziegert, the Agawam school teacher, is one I really hope gets solved soon too. Always breaks my heart to hear the interviewees talk about how much of a great person she was and the little girl saying "I wish there were more people in the world like her". Totally gutted. One of her relatives posted on Unsolved Mysteries' official Facebook page thanking them for posting her case again and urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward. I gave my condolences too. I believe Lisa's murder is solvable, with the DNA and tire imprint evidence collected, but only if the person or persons responsible re-offended somehow, and that scares me to think they've killed someone else since then.

Since we are talking about non UM cases ... I would like some closure on the Brandon Lawson case. It's here in Texas. It wasn't covered to my knowledge on any television show, but there have been some great podcasts made about it.

Here's a recent update on another non-UM cold case. Some of you may be familiar with the 2007 disappearance of 17-year old Kara Kopetsky, which was featured on "Disappeared". Kara's estranged boyfriend, Kylr Yust, was considered a person of interest, but now it looks like he's been arrested for the burning the vehicle of ANOTHER young woman named Jessica Runions who's recently gone missing:
http://www.kmbc.com/news/search-goes...t%20Type=Story

So if turns out Kylr was responsible for this disappearance, we may get some answers about Kara Kopetsky. What's weird is that even though Kylr seemed like such a likely suspect in Kara's disappearance, he wasn't pursued very hard because he apparently had an alibi. But I've read rumours online that the police originally wrote down the wrong date and time for Kara's disappearance, so the "alibi" Kylr provided might be meaningless. I just can't see how this guy isn't responsible!

We have not but Brian's case is so baffling due to the fact that there were a few surveillance cameras that covered the bar he was at. All exits were covered by camera. They show him coming in but there isn't one that shows anything or anyone resembling Brian leaving that bar. Its as if he disappeared into thin air once inside that bar.

I wasn't familiar with the Brian Shaffer case so I just looked at it then on The Charley Project page.

How on earth does a person enter a Bar then disappear without apparently leaving the place? Back entrance which had a broken camera? Drink drugged then carried out by person or persons unknown? If this was the case people would've seen this happening. It's like he just vanished into thin air.

Exactly. Such a bizarre disappearance. Since this happened, I believe Brian's father passed away. Spent almost everyday looking for him and reaching out into the community trying to figure out what happened to his son. To this day, the friend Brian was with that night will not speak to police.

Not only that, but Brian's father was killed after being struck by a falling tree branch in a windstorm ! I feel SO horrible for Brian's brother because he had his mother pass away of cancer, his brother vanish without a trace, and his father get killed during one two-year period!

I had forgotten about his mother. Such a terrible series of events to happen to that family. I've wondered why this story was never shown on Disappeared or any other show.
