Hello all! I'm moving from Virginia to San Diego this coming fall and as a UM fan, was planning on passing through cities where noteable cases on UM took place. I plan on going the southern route to include North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona as my last stop before California.
Any memorable UM locations I should pass through in these states? |

you left off Louisiana. For IH 10 corridor you could hit the Aubrey moate site and New Orleans could be the best major city on your entire route for tourism. For texas if you take the IH 10 route you could hit both devil's backbone area(best part of texas that I have been to hands down). there are also a lot of great tourist attractions in that area I.E. Alamo(overrated for me) but was featured on a treasure segment LOL. several natural sites..big bend national park not too far off route on the border of mexico/texas. But Marfa lights! they have an observatory there. I would stop there overnight for obvious reasons and I hear it is one of the best bed and breakfast stops in Texas. never been there myself but always wanted to go. It doesn't matter which interstate you take in texas 10 and 20 both meet about an hour due north of Marfa. If nothing else find a roadside bbq joint at a gas station and give it a shot. New Mexico... might be the best UM jurisdiction aside from spokane?(inside joke) I love new mexico. it is beautiful and has some of the best local cuisine and genuine historical culture you will ever encounter. It seems like UM picked a lot of interesting segments to show there not just crime. The haunted St. James Hotel. allegedly a lot of western outlaws/lawmen stayed there in their travels to the west. and Lorreto chapel(miracle staircase) both are in the far north Sante Fe area. both interesting features on UM. There are so many segments in new mexico especially for the outdoors/ treasure/etc. On route 66 Gallup, NM is one of the most unique places I've ever been. either way you can't go wrong even if you stay on IH 10 in the south it is beautiful. Arizona...well I guess glen and Bessie hyde grand canyon if you are heading west from northern new mexico. a lot of crime featured in Tucson and phoenix areas. I used to live in phx. I think the phoenix lights were a hoax so you probably won't see UFOs there. My favorite part of phoenix is paradise valley/Scottsdale area. a lot of cool things to do there and has beautiful views of the city. California? why would you even go there? just joking I love san diego one of my favorite big cities! |
