Do you like sitcoms that have a more realistic feel to it (All In The Family, The Honeymooners) or do you like unrealistic type sitcoms (Bewitched, The Munsters)?
I like a mixture of both. Some days, I will watch more realistic shows like All In The Family, and than another day I will watch something like The Munsters. So you could say I like both types of shows |

To be honest, I think both types are great and their particular brand of humor is just as effective at making me laugh. So I'm like you; they both hold a special place in my viewing experience.

I guess I didn't think of The Honeymooners as realistic

Some characters can afford to live in nice houses or apartments and some can't. Like real life.

Realistic. Definitely. I guess that's why I usually prefer dramas to sitcoms.

Depends entirely on my mood but I do like both equally.

I prefer realistic sitcoms. For example.....Julia, Gidget, The Brady Bunch, One Day At A Time, Different Strokes, Good Times, What's Happening, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, Three's Company, Blackish, House of Payne, Meet The Browns, Facts of Life, 227, Who's The Boss, and The Golden Girls.

Reality - what a concept! But for me, reality bites. I'd rather visit Fantasy Land.
TV is supposed to be the land of make-believe just like the movies. Sitcoms were presented as being about real people caught in funny, unpredictable, but mainly exaggerated situations. Some of these people and situations may not be entirely believable but if you can make them funny and entertaining enough to satisfy a large group of people every week, even long after the series ends, then you have a hit series. Real life is what happens inside and outside your home which you may or may not want to share with the rest of the world. For people who try to work and survive in the real world and often find it a struggle just to make ends meet, TV should be able to provide an escape from that by creating shows and characters that exist in one's fantasies and imagination providing us with people that we wish we could be rather than what we are really like. The silly, nonsensical at times, fantasy shows are there to be enjoyed and are there to make us happier, not to make us think. So what if horses can't really talk or nuns can't fly or that the castaways brought way too many clothes with them for what was supposed to be a three hour tour. It doesn't matter to me at all. It is not real. It is all made up. So sit back and have a few laughs and just enjoy it. To be honest, I can't get enough of them. |
