Question have you ever been criticized by friends/family for liking a certain show?

Have you ever been the butt of jokes by family/friends for enjoying a certain sitcom, or really any show for that matter?

For the longest time I used to be told that I "need help" and it was even suggested that " I should see a doctor", because I just happen to enjoy Mama's Family. Always was told how "stupid" Mama was. Never really bothered me in fact I used to laugh at it too myself. At work I was known as "the guy who likes Mama's Family". I guess a lot of people really dont like that show as it took me a long time to run into anybody who enjoys it as much as I do.

My old girlfriend on the other hand, we'll we actually broke up over the issue of sitcoms. She thought it was "weird" of me as a 28 year old who would much rather watch reruns of Lucy, Beaver, and Car 54 than shows like Friends and Seinfield. Shows that according to her memebers of the generation X club MUST watch. Sounds strange but she really believed it that.

I also have in the past heard a lot of jokes about me enjoying Dragnet & Emergency too. Heard so many Jack Webb-Julie London jokes.
And this "..what a terrible show that is! how can you watch that crap? why dont you watch NYPD Blue", ect...

Cool

My friends tease me sometimes because I like Wings and NewsRadio instead of Friends and Seinfeld.

My mom always teases me by saying I need to go to Andy Griffith rehab. I also get weird looks from my friends when I'm talking about all the old shows that I watch. They are into Buffy, Charmed, Felicity, Dawson's Creek. Basically anything that has teenagers in it.

One time my friend asked me if I had watched the Don Knotts biography on A & E. I was saying how I couldn't believe I missed it. This really good looking guy was near me and said "The Andy Griffith Show"? What is that? My friend explained to him that I'm obsessed with TAGS. The good looking guy replied back with an, "Oh, I just watch stuff on Cinemax and HBO". Luckily, this girl that was behind him said how she watched the show and liked it.

Well, I'm 22 and all I watch is the old stuff. The new shows are just bad carbon copies of each other.

Oh, now that's just sick! I love Adam-12, Dragnet, and Emergency! They are so real without having to rely on the officers/doctors/paramedics personal lives. Sorry, but I really don't care who's sleeping with who. What does that have to do with police work anyway??

Sad

I'm 16 and I get made fun of for not only loving Star Trek, but also loving classic comedies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I hate the newer comedies because they are too sexually-minded and dirty. I also get made fun of because I like oldies music instead of that new yucky psuedo-music

But, it's no big deal. Peer pressure isn't gonna change my likes and dislikes!

Geez, what's the matter with those people? Mama's Family is a great show, and so are the rest of the shows you mentioned.

Anyway, no, I guess my friends and family don't criticize the stuff I watch...They don't have enough nerve...or maybe they just don't care.

I'm in my 20's also and I love old shows and used to love old music a lot too. Today's music along with Television IS too sexually minded. Things are really getting out of hand. During my Preteen years and teen years my sister would always be on my case about me watching reruns on tape and later Knots Landing. "You're watching a rerun of Knot's Landing?" she would say. That would get on my nerves, or if I am watching something on TV she would be in the room and then the question would come,"TJ, can we watch something else?" I hated that intensely.

In high School one girl called me a TV Junkie and one guy called me a TV freak. People get so amazed when I tell an answer as to how long a program aired and who was in it. It comes very easy for me.

I also get knocked for liking cartoons (like Buzz Lightyear, Josie & Pussycats, etc.).

I also like Mama's Family, I've just started watching it recently.

I'm made fun of a lot at school the past two years for liking "Veronica's Closet." I'm also made fun of for being a teenage male whose favorite shows star woman characters, such as "Veronica's Closet," "The Nanny," "The Golden Girls," and "Suddenly Susan."

But it's more teasing than anyone else, and I don't care whether or not people are going to make fun of me just because of a show I watch, you know?

My God.. you guys dont even know how much crap I get for liking what I like. I'm known around school as "That girl who likes Laverne and Shirley" or "That girl who's stuck in the seventies."

well, I dont care what those people say. If I play my cards right, after I get out of high school I'll never see those people again. And I can watch my Laverne & Shirley, Gilligan's Island, Lucy, Kotter, and Get Smart without criticism.
