I"m a TV Guide collector and noticed something interesting about the show's syndication launch in the fall of 1974.
Here in the Toronto area, the local CBC station ran it every day at 5:30 PM. After a couple of years it moved to one of our independent stations. It also aired constantly on nearby Buffalo and Rochester stations throughout the '70s. I thought it was a big hit everywhere since it was so easy to find in our area. What surprises me is how many areas it WASN'T carried in during 74-75: San Francisco, Central Virginia, Boston, El Paso, Denver, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Detroit*, Albany, Syracuse, Burlington, Tucson, Houston, Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh are some of them. It WAS carried in: Sacramento, Providence, Philadelphia, Albequerque, Grand Rapids, New York City, Las Vegas and Washington DC. Maybe the show wasn't that anticipated that fall? *Detroit didn't pick it up but nearby Windsor ON did |

Interesting.
It is hard to know why certain TV stations won't or don't broadcast certain syndicated shows. It could me money. It could be that someone in charge feels that other syndicated shows would generate more viewers. It could just be happenstance. |

By the time PF was cancelled in the spring of 74, stations had bought most of their syndicated programming for the fall of 1974. It wasn't offered earlier because there weren't yet 100 episodes, and had the show been renewed, it wouldn't have been offered for the fall of 1974.

Perhaps those stations didn't wanna cancel whatever they had on their schedule to make room for it. |
