I was watching Heathcliff and I noticed that a logo from Lorimar/Telepictures Productions appeared at the show's beginning and it caught my eye because when the logo music starts it begins with an exploding firework and then the firework turns into the words "Lorimar/Telepictures Productions" and then the logo ends with cute sparkles at the end. When I first saw this logo it was very interesting to learn more about. Because I know that there is another version of this logo that's the same version but a shorter version without the sparkles at the end. What can you tell me about this Lorimar/Telepictures logo? Also what year did Lorimar/Telepictures start using this logo?

The logo premiered in spring 1986. The only two versions I recall were one with the "sparkles" at the end, and one without. The logo used to scare the crap out of me as a child...it's still kinda unnerving to me all these years later, prolly because of all the childhood trauma.
Where does Heathcliff air with that particular logo? I only recall the show having a Dic production logo. |

So the Lorimar/Telepictures Productions logo that I saw came out in 1986? Pretty interesting fact. When I watch TV I also like to look at the logos of production companies because they are interesting and have an awesome history. Does Lorimar/Telepictures Productions still use this logo or did they update to a newer fresher logo?

Actually there are 3 Lorimar-Telepictures logos:
1st version (which first premiered on January 6, 1986 on the 1986-87 game show The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime w/ the late Jim Lange and possibly Thundercats as well). This was was more of a prototype of the merging of the Lorimar and Telepictures' then-existing logos (Lorimar's 1978-86 famous "Line of Doom" and Telepictures' 1984-86 Parallelogram streaks logo). 2nd version (Spring 1986-Spring '89 on some other shows (such as the earlier episodes of Fun House and Love Connection and The Peoples' Court during the 1988-89 seasons of those shows). This is the more familiar version we all know. We see the streaks and comets collide and when they touch each other, an explosion happens and the background turns blue and the tinkles on the L-T logo appear on a few spots. This can be found on dozens of shows such as The People's Court, 1st 3 Seasons of Superior Court, Dallas, Knot's Landing, Falcon Crest, Our House, Love Connection, Perfect Strangers, earlier episodes of The Hogan Family (aka Valerie during its 1st 2 seasons), Fun House, some international DVD's or reruns of the 1st 2 seasons of ALF and the 1st season of ALF Tales and was also seen on at least 4 episodes of the Mama's Family Complete Series DVD (such as "Cellmates," "Mama's Boyfriend," and "Mama Goes to Hawaii" among them), older reruns of Alvin and the Chipmunks, Gumby's Adventures (the 1988 version) and post-Season 1 episodes of Thundercats among them. 3rd version (Fall 1987-88, '89 on some other shows such as the 1st season of Freddie's Nightmares from 1988-89) same as the 2nd version, except it's shortened by a few seconds and after the streaks and comets hit each other and explode, the background doesn't turn blue and there are no tinkles on the L-T logo like it is on Version 2. This can be found on the 1st season of Full House (1987-88), Season 3 of The Hogan Family (aka Valerie's Family during that season), Season 2 of Our House and the 1987-88 seasons of Dallas, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing and Perfect Strangers among them. |
