Default Can someone please explain this?

I have been watching The Waltons since it first aired in 1972. I am now watching it on dvd. Now here's my question. Where is Mrs. Brimmer's boarding house and Dr. Vance's office (later to become Curt and Maryellen's home)? When they visit Mrs. Brimmer's there is a sidewalk and neighborhood children at play. It looks like it's in a town? The closest town ever mentioned is Rockfish which is 6 miles away. Well, in the episode that I watched today Grandma walked to Mrs. Brimmer's and certainly she didn't walk those 6 miles! So is Waltons Mountain an actual town/village? This has been bugging me for years! Nothing is ever mentioned just where these places are.

Yeah, I think it is a town itself, some of geography can be confusing, but I think the area you describe is just down the road from Ike's store, probably also close to where the Baldwin sisters live.

Sheriff Bridges, I think his office is in Rockfish.

You are probably right Torgo. It just seems odd that if this is a village that it would have been given a name.Yes, I imagine it was just down the road from Ike's. And that's probably the direction of the Baldwin house. The village/town must have been unincorporated as it had no post office. The post office was in Ike's store. I am assuming that the church and the school were in the country as most people walked to them. It seems the whole area is referred to as Walton's Mountain, Va.The mail is postmarked Waltons Mountain VA. So I'm guessing the so-called town is actually Waltons Mountain??????????????????????? I think the bus station and Ep Bridges office were indeed in Rockfish.I guess we will never know.

I think the town/village was named Walton's Mountain, whenever someone asked where they were from they would say Walton's Mountain, Virginia.

Yeah the school and church are definitely in that same area, seems like when the kids walk to Ike's from school they come in straight across the court from the store.

Eventually the bus started stopping at Ike's, if my memory serves me right.

I've think we've got it Torgo! Walton's Mountain VA is the name of the town and not just the name of the mountain.
It all makes sense now.
And yes, the bus did eventually stop at Ike's store.

Thanks for contributing your thought to this mystifying subject Torgo! I feel better now. Things have to make sense to me!

I just finished watching an episode of The Waltons "The Runaway" where Jim-Bob runs away from home. He walks by Ike's store and doesn't acknowledge Ike's "hello". Later on Ike was asked if he had seen Jim-Bob and he replied that he saw him heading towards town. I think that's the first time that I ever heard anyone mention "town". I am assuming he meant Walton's Mountain as "town". I now have a concrete answer to my question!

Do you remember which way Jim Bob was walking when walking past Ike's?

I've got my geography mixed up as far as where Ike's store is located, I always thought when they walked (or drove) from the Walton house to Ike's they were coming in from the left (so Ike's would be on their right), but two episodes I've recently watched when Ike was asked where the Walton's live he points to the right.

I always wondered about the geography on the show, I think because it's one of those shows that they do a lot of walking/driving to different locations.

I would say so, otherwise he would've specified Rockfish as they usually do.

I did notice on one Ike was asked where Bremmer's boardinghouse was and he said it's just down the road.
