Default What were the most disappointing sitcoms?

Whenever the question of disappointing/underwhelming shows or shows that went downhill is asked, the comment section is usually filled with dramas. There's a reason, sire, but I'm curious about the shows that sounded like they were great on paper with unique concepts or killer casts but just did not live up to the potential?

For me it is the fairly recent The Crazy Ones. I was SO excited when I heard Robin Williams was returning to TV since I was a huge Mork and Mindy fan as a kid. The show was somewhat funny but really more sad You could tell something wasn't right with Robin and the writers had not a single clue how to write for his character. I can't even watch it now because it is just too sad.

I was so excited when Robin Williams and Michael J. Fox got new shows. I really tried to like both. I guess all the talent in the world can't save a show with bad writers.

If you want a more recent example, I would have to go with The Muppets. Like Robin Williams and Michael J Fox, their show also came with a fairly recognizable brand that is loved all over the world. ABC was so positive that this series was a sure hit that they promoted it to death, even making a 10 minute promo film that ran on YouTube last summer. In hindsight, that promo turned out to be funnier and more successful than the series itself. It started off well in the ratings, but then quickly sank and it never recovered. I guess the public wasn't ready for the Muppets in adult situations and plots. The whole thing ended up feeling sad and depressing and not very funny at all.

The Muppets is a good example. It got a lot of hype (usually a kiss of death for a new show), and I remember really enjoying the first episode. I think it was a little too mature for some people though.

The US version of Coupling was another overhyped flop. Lots of promos in summer 2003, crashed and burned that fall.

I think Dr Ken is kind of stupid but I watch it because nothing else good is on and It is after Last Man Standing which I like. I never liked Parks and Recreation. I thought it was stupid. I thought Malcome in the Middle was stupid too. And I also hated Seinfeld and I really couldn't take all that loud music in the background pinging and panging. I love Mike and Molly,. anything Chuck Lorie does is funny.

Stupid isn't bad. If it's entertaining, why not?

I guess the sitcoms headlined by the former cast of Seinfeld disappointed.

All time, it might be some vehicle for a major star that was just wasn't funny, like Here's Lucy, Doris Day Show, or Henry Fonda's The Smith Family.
Some of these shows were good during their time but not anymore.

The Goldbergs - I liked the premise because I grew up a kid in the 1980's but lately it's just been coasting along on lazy writing throwing in an 80's reference here and there thinking it's funny.

Uncle Buck - The writing was on the wall with this one, burying it in the Summer was a clue as to it's fate and comparisons to Black-ish didn't help much.
