ABC Boss on "Castle's" Cancellation

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey was asked to address the decision to cancel "Castle" during the network’s executive session at TCA.

The cancellation, which came after the controversial decision by producer ABC Studios to cut two female cast members, including co-lead Stana Katic, “was a case where you have things running on parallel tracks,” Channing said.

“We were upfront with the studio that we may not be renewing Castle. But they had to do to prepare for season 9 and do what they needed to do should there be a Season 9. Ultimately, the network’s decision was not to go for Season 9.”

There are no new projects with stars Nathan Fillion or Katic in the works at the network, Dungey said after the session.

Nathan Fillion will be on Modern Family for 3-4 episodes this Fall! Katic is in Canada and take it easy with new husband.
