Default Rebooting Growing Pains for Netflix: Would Anyone Watch?

Hello everyone,

As many of you are aware, Netflix has gone re-boot crazy with rebooting such iconic TV classics as "Full House" & "Gilmore Girls."

That being said, IF Netflix were to reboot "Growing Pains," would anyone watch? If they did, would it become a hit once again?

MY answer to both questions: Yes!

Here's how I would reboot "Growing Pains": in the Pilot Episode, I'd have Kirk Cameron & his real-life wife (as their respective "GP" characters) move into the Seaver family home in Long Island, New York with their 2 teenage boys and a 10-year-old daughter.

I'd have Mike Seaver, Jr., age 14, be the eldest teenage son, a junior version of his own father in the original series--a "hormone with feet," as Mike's mother Maggie referred to him in the original series' pilot; meanwhile, 12-year-old Humphrey would be the little brother who looked up to his big brother, idolizing him to the point of wanting to be JUST like him; the 10-year-old daughter, Katie, would be a rising 5th-grader struggling to fit in with her peers and classmates.

As the 1st-season progresses, I'd have episodes focus on misadventures in the NEW Seaver household, with special guest appearances by Alan Thicke, Joanna Kerns, et al as their original series characters.

Is this a good idea or what?

It might work if they kept Kirk Cameron away from it.

They would have to keep it true to the original series and the 2 movies. Follow the storyline and since the 2nd movie that's where they should start off. 14 years have passed since the 2nd movie in 2002, I believe...

From what I read, they don't want to do a revival. I think doing just the 2 movies was it.

I wasn't a huge fan of the show but I did watch it. Would it get an audience?

I think the only TGIF show that would get the most interest is Family Matters....Even Step By Step I doubt would be as big as that one.

Mike and his wife and family would be good. However, how old were the kids on the movies? The kids might be almost off to college by now, or late teens in high school...

Would Ben have married by now? He was single in the 2 movies.

The problem is the popularity of the show itself. The Facts Of Life only did ONE movie. Why Growing Pains got 2 I will never know? I was more into FOL, but GP got 2 movies and FOL I think, despite not having Jo, was the one I liked best.

I think Family Matters brought back as Family Still Matters would be the most wanted revival. It was the most popular of the TGIF shows next to Boy Meets World and Full House. Bringing any other TGIF shows might be a risk, as some aren't aired much anymore. For example...Perfect Strangers, great show, but hasn't been on re-runs since USA aired I think in 1997-1998. Has been off the air since 1992/
1993...Step By Step might work, but I doubt it will be as huge as Fuller House, Girl Meets World, or Family Matters (if they bring that one back)...
