Just what IS that red thing in the back of the Winslow's living room?

Has anyone ever seen one of these in their entire lives? What is it? What purpose does it serve? Did some craftsman build a whole wooden frame just to hold this mysterious red circle? What IS that thing?

If you watch Episode 22 of Season 2, at around 6:10 in Carl points it out and mentions he picked it out himself. Carl's friend asks what it is, and Carl says he doesn't know.

.....Just what IS that thing? We have a right to know.

Surely someone has seen another one throughout all their years of life. Speak up!

I have no idea. I just know that it did get acknowledged at one point during the show as something that Carl picked out for the living room.

Actually, it has been confirmed that it used to simply be a mirror. They had to cover it up with that red cloth though, or there would have been a reflection of the camera crew seen in every shot from the living room.

I've done some searching and figured out it's not only simple a mirror. It's called a hall tree. You can Google it and see tons of images that are similar. But you're right Furienna, they appear to have taken the mirror out so it wouldn't reflect the studio.

Can't find any pics on the net of the exact one they had, though. I wonder how many were made. If I were a billionaire I'd hunt it down so I could remake the house someday

I wonder why they put that in then if it's a mirror. Season 1 had the grandfather clock there seen to the side by the door in the hall
