Default I just realized why I dislike "Jack's Navy Pal" so much

"Jack's Navy Pal" from Season 2 is one of the very few episodes where there is no misunderstanding.

Basically the guy comes in, trashes the apartment, behaves like a jerk, and leaves. There is no mix-up of any kind.

For some reason this never occurred to me, but it's one of the reasons this episode seems lacking to me.

Yeah , this ep is kind of weird!!! A downer ep.!! I've see it a couple times and it didn't occur to me at the time that the actor is David Dukes!!!! He also played a bad/negative character in All in the Family! He was the guy who attempted to rape poor Edith on her birthday in her own home!!! He also guest starred on One day at a time as a date/love interest of Ann's ! Not a sinister character like in TC or AITF!!!

And he actually is a really nice looking man! Really pretty eyes! Apparently he accepted some roles where he played a jerk!!!

David Dukes was also in an episode of The Jeffersons titled George and the President but I forgot who he played.

Yes, he was a handsome fellow. I thought he was a pretty good actor, too, but that Three's Company episode did not give him much to work with. But I can see him as a legit bad guy in something else with better material.

He was excellent in the 80's horror flick Rawhead Rex, he didn't play a jerk in that, but in his last role as the university dean in Stephen King's Rose Red, he played a jerk.

He was trying to get George to pass himself off as the great-great-great grandson of Thomas Jefferson for an ad campaign.

I agree! And playing the blind guy he of course couldn't show off his beautiful eyes! So that role went flat!

I don't hate it as much as I used to. Some of the lines are funny, and the set-up (cooking dinner for the Ropers, the only time we see this happen in the series) is interesting.

I guess it just falls flat for me. I don't like watching the guy get away with punching Jack. Seems like a mean-spirited/downer episode.
