My husband and I have collected a LOT of classic TV shows and movies on DVD and that's basically what we watch each day. I can't name one sitcom on today that we like. In fact I can only name one show I watched last season, Blue Bloods.
Anyway, we have been watching these shows for such a long time that we kind of get burned out on them. Anyone else? |

I do get burned out on some shows. But if that happens, I just don't watch them for awhile until they feel fresh to me again.

Once you have understood that you have been burned out by a good show, you have to figure out how many times a day or week you are watching the show.
If it is a 30 minute show and you are watching more then one episode of that series a day, that is where the burn out can begin. If that is not the case, try just watching one episode of the series a week. |

There are a number of classic TV shows I consider among the best ever made that I have not watched in a long time simply because I've seen every episode many times off and on over the years. That's one reason I'm always on the lookout for shows that have not been seen in reruns in a long time and also for lesser known classic shows.

I never get burned out on any show. Maybe it's because I have such a big collection of shows and movies to watch. If I ever do start to feel burned out, I'll just think about all the trash that's on TV today, then pop in one of my DVDs! The only shows I watch today are Days of our Lives, Law and Order: SVU, The Big Bang Theory and The Haves and The Have Nots.

I only watch 1 or 2 classic tv shows a day so I don't really get burned out. I watch current sitcoms & dramas because there are so many I like.

I rarely watch today's tv except The Simpsons and Modern Family. As far as being burned out on classic shows, I think it would depend on the show.

Occasionally I get tired of a certain show, then I give it a year or two rest and I'm ok to watch it again.
Shows I've grown tired of in the past but I'm ok with now: The Andy Griffith Show All in the Family Cheers Gilligan's Island Three's Company Shows that are still in retirement for me because of burn out: The Golden Girls Bewitched I Dream of Jeannie Good Times Boy Meets World Full House Roseanne Saved by the Bell The Cosby Show Reba Sabrina the Teenage Witch Buffy the Vampire Slayer |

I never burn out on classic shows in general. What I do is that i binge watch a classic show for so long until I'm tired of watching it Then I'll switch to another show and the cycle continues

I do. I've pretty much seen every Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons episodes. And they are STILL on the air. (Which is great!). But I would like to see some other shows. Thankfully I can get my favorites on DVD but I really wish networks (there are so many now) would expand and air different programs than the usual.

I got burnt out on Andy Griffith Show. I was in the hospital last year for 5 weeks, the first week in ICU; I had free TV in ICU, as sick as I was, I took advantage of the TV and watched Andy two times a day on METV, to the point were the damn whistling theme song was making me even sicker, so I am taking a vacation from Mayberry
![]() PS. I should mention that they were from the colour seasons, which was an even worse punishment! |

I rarely do binge watching. Those shows were never made for that of course and the repetition of some things in the shows becomes more obvious. My wife thinks I'm crazy for refusing to binge watch and getting up to change the DVD but it helps.
The few current shows I watch I try to stay about a season behind and either watch on DVD or DVR. I recorded some series last fall and I am just starting on the season premieres now from last year. I prefer to always have my shows to watch but to keep them fresh. I agree that Andy Griffith and ALL In the Family were classics but they fare poorly for me on getting old quick. Also agree that the color years of Andy were like Mayberry of Earth 2 to me. By Mayberry RFD it was not even the same universe to me as the black and white years. Even Barney didn't seem the same in the few appearances in color episodes. |

I don't ever get tired of watching the classics. The trouble I have is trying to figure out where to find them since they are NEVER, NEVER seen on TV anymore. (Honestly, I can't remember the last time I saw Andy Griffith, Gilligan's Island or The Brady Bunch on TV. It's like finding a needle in a haystack --- in Russia!) So what I've done instead is, like many of you, I have taken up the fun activity of binge-watching, mainly online. Except that I don't watch only one show where I see a number of episodes in a row. That would naturally lead to you getting tired and burned out from seeing even the best shows over and over again. What I do is try to mix them up a little and choose different episodes from different series and watch those every night. The next night I would choose a new set. This way, everything seems fresh and you look forward to more. For example, for tonight, if you are looking for a fun way to honour the late Garry Marshall, try this little binge-worthy recipe:
2 episodes of Happy Days + 2 of Laverne and Shirley + 1 each of The Odd Couple and Mork and Mindy For tomorrow, I'm thinking maybe Family Affair + The Beverly Hillbillies + Bewitched + ? (undecided) This weekend: My Three Sons + I Dream Of Jeannie + Gilligan's Island + I Love Lucy After that, I'm not sure. I'll have to look around for ideas. |
