Default Did movie director Hizao Miyazaki retire from making movies?

I am a fan of Japanese anime movies and I heard that movie director Hizao Miyazaki retired after making the movie Ponyo and I would like to know if it's true? I became a fan of Hizao Miyazaki's movies when I saw Kiki's Delivery Service and started to collect them all. Hizao Miyazaki's movies are so awesome and amazing and it's a shame that there won't be any more movies by Hizao Miyazaki being released to theaters

Miyazaki's last film (or to take an optimistic approach, his "most recent" film) was The Wind Rises, released in 2013. Later that year he issued a statement announcing his retirement from making feature films.
The interesting thing is that Miyazaki has apparently been "retiring" every so often since the 1990s, only to surprise everyone with a new movie after a few years' time. Fellow co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Toshio Suzuki, has hinted that his current retirement may not be permanent either, but only time will tell.

And for the record, his name is HAYAO Miyazaki

Thank you very much for the info Phoenix. I like Miyazaki's movies because they are fantastic and so cool and they always have the best actors in Hollywood to provide the voices of the characters

He announced recently he's returning with another feature length film. "Boro the Caterpillar" is coming out in 2019.

Still, the future of Studio Ghibli is uncertain as Miyazaki's hiatus allowed several former members to migrate to Studio Ponoc, a new film studio created in 2015 by an ex-Ghibli director. Their first film, "Mary and the Witch's Flower", premieres in Japan this summer.

This turned out to be false. The "Boro the Caterpillar" project is actually just a short film for screening at the Ghibli museum in Tokyo.

But he is still making a feature film, announced last October. The presumed title is "How Do You Live?" and it should be released by 2021.
