So I have this aunt and uncle. One is a school teacher (since 1989) and the other is a farmhand. For years, every time we have a family function, they ALWAYS have to ask everybody what job are they doing now and what goals do you have etc. They are always pushing college down everyone's throats. I understand they are concerned for our future's and that's great, but they kind of make people feel small for not going to college or having a high paying job. I'm always polite and just let it go one ear out the other. With me I think I am doing great, I work 2 jobs, pay my bills on time and obey the law. I don't drink or do drugs. They always have to ask if I am going to church. I have told them repeatedly that I work on Sundays. I think its another polite tactic to make me feel small about not attending church.

My brother in law and his wife are school teachers. I felt intimidated by them when I first married into the family. But (now I'm going to brag a bit!) I beat my sister in law in a word game. She was in the top 10 in vocabulary at the University Of Michigan . And I outsmarted them in Trivial Pursuit! Man, did I ever feel smart then! LOL I was not a good student in high school. I gained my word knowledge by years of reading and doing crossword puzzles and logic problems. But neither of them threw their education around. In fact they are so smart that they tend to be incredibly boring! Ha ha |

Everyone has relatives that are annoying. I don't have relatives that ask those questions but have an aunt who believes everyone should be married no matter what. She often would ask me if I had a boyfriend and then tried to match me up with a man. The problem was the guy had way too much baggage (several kids by different women, I think he was married to all or most of them). I told her I wasn't interested and she unfriended me on Facebook.

Why would anyone feel intimidated by a teacher? Their jobs suck! They are grossly underpaid babysitters who's jobs hang on the whims of their principals, PTAs/PTOs, and vocal parents. I have several friends who are teachers and they are extremely unhappy people. Two literally X off days until their retirement on calendars at their desks. The only reason they stay is the wonderful, but declining, benefit package and the fact that they know that they are not all that employable in other fields. Regarding church, when asked reply, "Why would you ask?", and then just stare. It usually puts the overly nosy on notice. |
