I can think of a few positives to doing one (even if it is alongside the upcoming new live action stuff):
1) Not confined by a budget for set and such, so more chance to do things a live action Trek wouldn't. 2) Ability to explore any era of Trek and have it blend together well (while I adored the times when later Trek series would visit the original series bridge, it did seem somewhat out of place to see the original series bridge in these newer shows). 3) Getting characters from past Trek series can work out a lot better, as they can be drawn (or computer generated) to appear as they did in their shows. Plus, if the actor is unavailable (like, since we can't get Nimoy anymore, if you wanted to have Spock but can't get his current actor) then a voice double can fill in and there might only be a slight difference. 4) Better animation than the Filmation series. A con I can see is that people might not take it as seriously due to the fact that it isn't live action, but what do you think? Bonus question: when would be the default time that you would set it in? |

If it isn't the Filmation series then I don't want anything to do with it.

The Star Wars animated series has been good and popular (I'm a Star Wars fan and I watch it now and then myself) so yes absolutely a new Star Trek animated series could work.
I've heard that George Lucas actually had for years wanted to do a live action Star Wars TV series but it never happened that way because of the special effects involved and he wanted to shoot in real locations all over the world and not just in a TV studio and then of course there's what you'd have to pay the actors involved so it would've been just way too expensive and complicated to do as a live action TV show. To do a new Star Trek animated series they'd just have to find good voice actors and good writers and write good and interesting and imaginative episodes that even though they're science fiction should still be logical and make sense to the audience. And have interesting and likable characters we would care about. And of course a couple of interesting and complex villains say like Gul Dukat or Q would be good too. I'm not sure what era I'd have it set in though, they all could be interesting so I'm open to anything as far as the time period goes. OK, except probably the Captain Kirk era, I feel like they've done all they can with that. Just my opinion. Ed. |
