Post The kids were saying they were rich because the mom won $2000?

The Dad called Atlantic City the "Las Vegas" of the Eastcoast?

This was just funny because when I think of going to Atlantic City in 2016 I just don't get the same excitement as the Keatons in 1984. lol

The Mom was like........."we can go on the Boardwalk!!!

Maybe it AC was big time back then because I recall the Jeffersons having a episode of going to Atlantic City around 1984 too

Even though back in 1984 $2000 had the buying power of $4000 in 2016, I don't see how the family was so excited over $2000 which would be ate up very fast with a household of 5 people

It would have made more sense for the writers to have her win $20,000 instead $2000.

I've never been to AC. But I'm not a gambler but maybe this summer I'll do a day visit just to see it once.

Actually it's a bit more than 4K, approx $4,700. Still, it's a nice piece of change; I wouldn't turn it down. You can do a lot of nice things for $4,700 today for a family of 5-6. A really really nice night on the town, a party, some nice appliances etc. But yes, it ain't a million or certainly enough to set someone up for life. Still....a NICE piece of change!

Rides

We would walk on the boardwalk and buy little souvenirs and salt water taffy to take home! A man dressed as Mr. Peanut would be strolling around! There would be shows on the Steel Pier ,like the diving horse show! And we'd eat!! The food just seemed to taste SO GOOD there!!!

Maybe they thought by going there, they (and the audience) would forget their disaster in England!

Default The kids were saying they were rich because the mom won $2000?

Which had the spending power of $4000 in 1984 and still not much for a family of a five. I had to laugh at that because they were acting like the mom won $50,000 in Atlantic City, Exactly how long is $4000 going to last a family of 5?

That ending was kind of goofy lol

Post Note:

Please don't make three separate threads on the same episode. I have merged the threads. One thread is plenty to talk about an episode.
