Default I am confident that this episode is the worst of Family ties as i continue to watch

the show

Tom Hanks playing Uncle Ned acting like a weirdo the entire episode and it was nothing funny about him acting drunk. All the crying and weird laughing. I swear I won't ever watching this weird episode again. Again there will be no episode worst than this one. LOL

I hope this is Tom Hanks only appearance as Uncle Ned

He was in two previous episodes [as Uncle Ned] in Season 1. The episodes are called The Fugitive Part 1 and The Fugitive Part 2.

Was he acting like a member of the Nut house in those eps?

Yeah. He was hiding from the FBI. He had a code name, etc. He wanted the family to keep his whereabouts a secret.

That's one of the best episodes of the entire series!

The worst eps of Family Ties are the clip shows and there's at least 8 of them which has to be a record.

I agree, for once with TVFactFan. I can't stand the Tom Hanks episodes.

when justine bateman hosted snl in 1988 they did a sketch that made fun of the fact that family ties semmed to be the king of clip shows

I really can't get over the slap in that episode, it was half funny and half scary. the whole episode had that vibe of wanting to laugh but then cringing. I've only seen it once.

For those who don't like this episode, or those who like it but don't mind a humorous look at it, go to a site called the Agony Booth. Click on TV shows, then Family Ties, then "The One Where Tom Hanks Plays a Drunk" for a "review".

Warning: Not for the faint hearted. Some blue language and possibly offensive snarkiness.

They also send up "A, My Name is Alex" , "Band on the Run", and the ones with Geena Davis.

Again, these are in my opinion very funny, but not everyone's tastes.

I liked both appearances of Hanks as Uncle Ned, especially the second time as an alcoholic. It's probably my all-time favorite FT episode in fact. Powerful and emotional. It was great to see Michael J. Fox and Tom Hanks work together.

I was wondering when somebody would bring this up and about the Uncle Ned drunk episode I found it stupid the audience laughter when just a minute ago Ned had knocked Alex to the floor.

The networks were thinking "ohh it's too serious a subject matter, how about adding a laugh here and there?"

This is nowhere near the worst episode. Tom Hanks gave a great performance like he did in the previous 2-parter.
