She was also in her early 40's when she played the role of Donna. Sanford and Son was one of the few shows where most of the players were portrayed as older than themselves, especially Whitman Mayo who played Grady who was also in his early 40's, and John Amos who was in an episode or two who also played old.
Lena Horne was about five years older than Redd Foxx. |

Cool! Donna was great as Fred's gf although IMO she was way to good for him.
And Lawanda Page made the show for me, I loved her fights with Fred; no insult flied by without one of them going tit for tat. |

Exactly! I Love the interaction between Fred And Esther Donna & Fred, perfect example of opposites attract! The proper , ladylike girl going for the guy who's a bit rough around the edges!

I just listened to a YouTube interview with Lynn Hamilton. She was asked if she and LaWanda Page were sisters. They were not blood sisters. They were good friends, and LaWanda treated Lynn like a sister and called her sister. Lynn said she saw LaWanda's obituary on the internet and saw it said there was a sister Lynn Hamilton and she just chuckled about it. So no, there were not actually sisters.

It was heavily rumored that LaWanda Page and Lynn Hamilton were sisters because in LaWanda Page’s obituary it lists another Lynn Hamilton as LaWanda’s sister and LaWanda and Lynn were quite fond of each other behind the scenes so people just inferred that LaWanda and Lynn were sisters.
