I was watching The Facts Of Life and noticed that it was produced by a production company called Embassy Television and I would like to know if you remember this company? Embassy Television was a big producer of sitcoms from the 70's and 80's and in addition to The Facts Of Life Embassy Productions also produced the sitcoms Square Pegs and Silver Spoons and is known for having a logo with a star and a blue logo while music plays in the background

From T.A.T. Communications to Embassy Television to ELP Communications (in-name copyright you see in the closing credits of some of the shows produced by Embassy that ran into the end of the 1980s and throughout the 1990s) there was still some awesome shows from the Lear tree.
Also you can't forget 227 w/ Marla Gibbs and Jackee Harry, Who's the Boss? with Tony Danza and Married with Children (one of the last shows to be produced under the Embassy Television name, along with the short-lived series The Charmings) all 3 successful Embassy Television shows. |

Seasons 9-11 of The Jeffersons were also done by Embassy while Seasons 1-8 were done under the old name TAT.

Is Embassy Television still in business? Because I noticed that Sony Pictures Television shows it's logo at the end of each episode of The Facts Of Life rather than the Embassy Television logo with music so does this mean that Embassy Television went broke and got bought by Sony Pictures Television?

In the 80's, Embassy Television had a slogan that said, "We Keep America Laughing".
Embassy started out as Tandem Productions, and was owned by Norman Lear. |

During Married With Children's original run, you first saw the Embassy Television logo with a Coca Cola byline at the end of the first season or two, and then several seasons after that, you would see the Columbia Television logo at the end. Now on Married With Children reruns, you only see the Sony Pictures Television logo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eA6zlbY0Gc |

It was in November of 1982 that the blue background version debuted. The Jeffersons (and 227) actually had the variation that started out being superimposed on the credit crawl but soon faded to the usual blue background.
Also, some Square Pegs episodes actually had the in-credit version of the logo with the animation and jingle. Yes, while still in the credits! I remember seeing that version on TV Land about 10 years ago. Some One Day at a Time season 8 episodes also used that rare variation. ~Ben |

I go and watch a couple of late-Season 8 episodes of One Day at a Time today on FETV and I find the original Embassy Television "Spinning/Rolling E" logo gone completely. I think it's because Sony Pictures Television forgot to restore the original logo, or didn't bother to because they want to continue their chronic plastering habits. On a print of those same episodes that were posted on YouTube, it's the Columbia Tristar TV logo replacing Embassy TV. Those prints were obviously older.

Embassy also produced "It's Your Move" in 1984-1985.

If past history is repeated, Shout! Factory should use the original logos.
There's no consistency as to what logos stay and what ones are deleted, when it comes to Sony. So, sometimes you'll see the Embassy logo, sometimes it's cut out, just like all their other old logos (like Screen Gems). |
