They were very popular back in his day.

The closest thing I know of is that he
became president of his fraternity,Alpha Kappa at State college.

I don't remember him leaving at night or anything for meetings or groups or such.

Other than his golf games, it seems that Ward was mostly with the family.

I wonder if fathers or mothers today have clubs they belong to. I know womens clubs in my area are almost died out. And the clubs that are still in business struggle to stay in business. The interest isn't there anymore.

I think that we are so busy providing for ourselves that we do not have time for such things. Also, what exactly did the clubs do? Why would somebody want to be a member? Was it just to socialize or get away from your family for awhile?

There are two kinds of clubs. Clubs like the Elks (and the fictional Water Buffaloes and Leopard Lodge) are fraternal organizations which are about friendship and social activities. Then are service clubs like Rotary and Lions Club which are about doing service projects in the community.
