According to my wife, too many.

I've never actually counted, but between my VHS, laser disc, some Beta, DVDs, Blu Ray, etc*...I'd say around 1500. A lot of that is from all of the multi pack DVD sets I own, which some have 50 to 100 films.

* The etc are the obscure films I've got downloaded onto an external hard drive that aren't available on any format (or if they are they're ridiculously priced)

I never counted. Well over 1,000. I will say that when I moved into my new apartment I gave away 3 boxes of DVDs and my collection doesn't seem to have shrunk. *sigh* I need help.

I keep an online database of what I own on DVD / Blu-ray over here:
http://jamesg.filmaf.com/owned

I add to the list only after I watched the item and I decide to hang onto it for a time. I purchase from various garage sales and thrift stores for used media and I must have approx. 200+ items that I haven't gotten around to viewing yet.

I donate/sell what I decide not to keep so my list changes every few months or so.

What I love about Film Aficionado is that you can keep track of the specific items you own (Limited Edition, Special Edition, 2-Disc... etc) and it lists if the items are out-of-print.

Also to note that FilmAf also includes Television Shows and does not do VHS / VCD / LaserDisc, so I have much more in my collection if I were to include those items. This is only DVD and Blu-ray.

Okay, I finally counted them all, and I kinda wished I haden't I have way more than I thought, those DVD sets and downloaded ones really added up. I have 2,743
And that's not including my wife's movies, or my daughter's.

I really need to categorize these.

Yeah, I'll never stop buying VHS. Some because they aren't available any other way. Others I get because I like collecting the oversized boxes, and clambshells, and the great artwork on some of those. Plus nostalgia, I still have the very first VHS I've ever bought- the HBO Cannon Video of The Evil Dead in the hard plastic case.

I finally registered at FilmAf, and have been adding my collection to it. There have been a couple of sets I couldn't find on there Mill Creek's Top Of The Class and Sensational Sixties.
Not complaining though, like you said it, being able to keep track of the special editions, limited, out of print, and also not just Region 1/A releases, makes it really nice.

I have several hundred movies on VHS tapes recorded off cable and somewhere between 20 and 30 DVD movies I've bought over the past few years. I have way more TV show DVD's than movie DVDs.
