Default Why is GSN afraid to show the original Let's Make A Deal?

I remember when GSN used to have a midnight weekend block that used to feature Let's Make A Deal and then show reruns of The Amazing Race but ever since the Wayne Brady version of Let's Make A Deal debuted GSN stopped showing the original Monty Hall version of Let's Make A Deal and has never been seen on the channel since. When GSN used to show the original Let's Make A Deal Mom and I would watch it and now it makes me think that ever since Wayne Brady's Let's Make A Deal came out GSN is now scared to show the original Let's Make A Deal for reasons unknown. And not only that when the Drew Carey version of The Price Is Right came out GSN stopped showing the reruns of the Bob Barker version of The Price Is Right as well
Is GSN in an exclusive contract with Fremantle Media that forbids them to show the original Let's Make A Deal episodes?

As far as I know, GSN never ran TPIR, unless it was before I got it.

I'm sure they have their reasons for not running it but I doubt very much that fear plays a part.

GSN ran TPIR from 1996-2000. Many episodes were skipped because of Barker's for his passion of animal rights (no furs).

From wiki:
GSN would have to pay royalties to both CBS and Fremantle to gain the rights to the show.

BuzzrTV has reruns of the Monty Hall version of Let's Make A Deal? That's so fabulous JSP. I wish Direct TV had BuzzrTV so I could see the original Let's Make A Deal. So that's the reason why GSN stopped airing the original Let's Make A Deal because I never knew they showed it on BuzzrTV
Thank you very much for replying JSP it was great info

GSN is lousy. Look at there lineup this afternoon. From about 12-5 PM there isn't as a show from no earlier then, what 2010?

TPIR should be shown. Why can't they just edit out all the fur mentions?

From what I am seeing GSN is planning more "new" competition based shows as supposedly they get much better ratings. I am in favor of putting anything better than "Family Feud" on 12 hours per day, but these "design" something shows are not "game shows" to me.

GSN will be another network that changes away from their mission statement. Is it so hard to make actual game shows like "The Chase"? Sometimes the contestants on there lose the money so the production costs have to be minimal as long as teams don't start winning $100,000 per episode.

Fremantle Media owns the rights to air and produce Let's Make a Deal. It does air on Buzzr (which is a channel created and owned by Fremantle Media to air their entire library of game shows), but GSN would have to purchase the rights from them in order to air it.

As far as reruns for TPIR, they did air during the late 90s and early 2000s on GSN, but my understanding is that Bob Barker won't authorize his appearance for future reruns. Part of the reason is due to his animal rights activism and the ban on fur episodes, but I heard the other reason too is so that the Barker's Beauties he had a falling out with (especially Holly Hallstrom) aren't able to receive royalty checks for their appearances. And if that's the case, we will never see 1977-1995 TPIR reruns, at least as long as Barker's still alive.

That said, the latest press release from the Buzzr team is that they're still working diligently to receive clearance for reruns of TPIR. So I guess there's still a non-zero chance of Barker-era episodes seeing the light of day again.

Many people blame CBS head Leslie Moonves for the main reason you don't see Barker TPIR on GSN. In actuality, he couldn't care less if it airs on GSN, ditto, Monty Hall LMAD. The real blame is Bob Barker, and only Bob Barker.

I actually never heard of that reason.

Can you explain further?

Yes, I would like to know the reason too. Barker seems kind of shady. Its sad because I like Bob. Could he really be a different person than you see on TV?

I have seen people on the old GSN boards be under the assumption that Les Moonves was to blame, but as time goes by, the more I realize this isn't the case. That's the best I can explain it.

I like Bob as an entertainer, but it is true that he is different off stage.
If he cared as much as about human beings as he does animals,he'd be great.
He complains that other then animal rights people,no one come to see him.
He is being reported as going to give all his money away to animal rights people
If he does this, he will need the royalty checks to pay the bills.
Holly episodes were just a fraction of the entire run.
I hope they do bring back the Holly episodes and give her royalties for them.
