Default Pilot Season 2016: Looking ahead to the Upfronts

With today marking the end of April, the May sweeps are almost here which will officially mark an end to the 2015-16 TV season, after which the networks will soon announce what their new fall schedules will look like. To get a general idea of what new series may be in store for September, they have to screen a number of potential pilots and then choose what they hope will be the best ones. This takes place during the winter, in what is called Pilot Season.

(Not Rabbit season or Duck Season, but Pilot Season!)

According to the Hollywood Reporter, these are the number of shows that will be screened in order to make the final cut for Sept.

Total orders: 87 (85 in 2015)
Dramas: 44 (41 in 2015)
Comedies: 43 (44 in 2015)
Single-camera: 28 (24 in 2015)
Multicamera: 13 (17 in 2015)
Hybrid: 2 (1 in 2015)

TV Pilot Season 2016: By The Numbers

Of the 43 comedies that are being offered, I would expect no more than 10 to make it, since (no surprise here) this season was another bad one for sitcoms. Not only that, but a lot of them appear to be very unwatchable, at least from reading some of the descriptions of the shows themselves:

TV Pilots 2016: The Complete Guide

To find a place for the new series, a few old ones would have to leave. As of this moment, several bubble shows are still barely hanging on, with no final word yet on what is being renewed or cancelled:

Which TV Shows Will Be Cancelled? - Chicago Tribune

All this will be sorted out and finalized around the middle of May. Don't expect to see another Big Bang Theory or Modern Family from any of the networks, but more shows like Dr Ken or Last Man Standing are highly possible. You have been warned!

You can go on goggle and find out what shows are coming back in the fall and which aren't. It said under which shows will be canceled that Grandfathered will but I saw another thing on the internet that said it will probably come back and I hope it does.
