Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson on Why They Don't Want "That '70s Show" Reunion
Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson on Why They're Not High about a "That '70s Show" Reunion
by Dan Snierson April 27, 2016 Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson have rejoined comedic forces, assumed the roles of brothers, and traded Wisconsin for Colorado in Netflix’s new family comedy "The Ranch". (The 10-episode first half of the season debuted April 1; the second half streams later this year.) And while the "That ’70s Show" vets embrace the idea of casting their former castmates in guest roles on this rural sitcom from a streaming service known for its love of a reboot/reunion (Arrested Development, Fuller House, Gilmore Girls), they are decidedly less interested in revisiting "That ’70s Show" at this point. “There’s probably some way of doing it that it would actually be brilliant,” Masterson tells EW, “but it’s got a 99 percent chance of not, so why take that chance?” Kutcher agrees, noting that there’s value in nostalgia, but the impulse to recreate past magic isn’t one that should always be heeded. “Whenever something is great, the first thing people want to have happen is to have it rebuilt, redone; they want more of what they love,” he tells EW. “But the minute you try to do that, in a lot of cases you end up losing the thing that was beautiful about it in the first place. That ’70s Show is a nostalgic show. I think it was nostalgic as it was being made, and now it’s nostalgic for a different reason. And I just don’t know that anything that we’re going to do that would be new would be better than what we did. And when you run that risk, I think it’s better to leave things alone.” Kutcher and Masterson did mention that they are still close with their former co-stars. “Most of us see each other several times a month anyway,” says Masterson, “so it’s not like everyone is living on separate continents.” http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/27...s-show-reunion |
