Doris Roberts 1925-2016- RIP

She guested on "Alice" once playing the protagonist's mother. What was interesting was that Miss Roberts played her usual smothering character trying to push Alice to get married again BUT it turned out that Alice's mother just was worried re what would happen to Alice and Tommy if Alice had to struggle to survive on her own. Alice reassured her that they'd be fine but since Alice's mother herself appeared to a widow, I wonder why Alice didn't ask her why SHE didn't remarry if she thought that was crucial to a woman's survival?

P.S. There were a couple of episodes in which Eileen Heckert guested as Alice's mother-in-law who tried to uproot Tommy from her for daring to consider dating after her husband's death. Too bad there never was an episode in which both of Tommy's grandmothers met and clashed!
