Oh No I'd like to get a car now, but...

Right now, I live in an area where everything is walking-distance.

I'd like to get a car only because summer is coming soon and I don't want to get cooped-up in the city. I dunno if I can get an Uber to Cedar Point, but I'd only get a car if I wanna go out of town.

Last summer, I tried waiting for my friends to take me places, but they were all fickle! So the only solution is...to get a car, but there's also no government support for the poor who have a vehicle. It's like they might as well say "You're poor? **** You, ride the bus like everyone else"!

What should I do?

I think if your government assistance is conditional on you not having a car then you need to probably forget about the car, since it's about survival. I'm not going to tell you to get a job because I don't know your situation.

Oh No

Okay...

I have a job, I have SSI/SSDI, and I get food assistance.

But...I live in Ohio City and I dunno how I can pay the expenses of a car (gas, insurance, maintenance). I also dunno if I tell the people like SSI/SSDI and food assistance that I now pay insurance for a car.

If you don't know how you will be able to afford the expenses of a car, it's probably best that you don't get one at this time.

When I have to renew my Drivers License...should it just be renewed, just in case I do get a car?

If you are capable of driving, you should always have a valid driver's license. It's a government issued picture ID, and you need it to get through life. If you are unable/will never be able to drive again, you'll still need a DMV non-driver's ID card. What's the big deal?

I just need the opinion...that is all.

I'll renew my license, I may have to drive my brother around one day...that's another story!

If I were you I'd hold off on the car! It is a major expense, and considering gas, car insurance etc. If you don't need a car for work or to get around your city , I'd say you are better off without that extra expense!

To get away and out of the city for the day sometimes like you want to, how about taking a Greyhound? Just short trips, that take a couple, few hours. Not having to stay over night, same day. Greyhound prices are reasonable, and you can look out the window, enjoy the scenery , more so than if you are driving and have to keep your eyes on the road!

And definitely renew your license anyway, even if you don't have a car. You do need it for ID purposes ,and somebody might lend you their car sometime!

That's it.

Plus, if you can't afford a car, you're sure to get a beat up old car that will constantly need repairs.

Some people might be offended by this but the government shouldn't buy you a car or even help you buy a car. The reason the US is in so much debt today is that the government gives people way too much free stuff.

Oh No I've made-up my mind... I'm getting a car!

It looks like my summer never began and I feel that I'll be spending Labor Day weekend at home and NOT going out-of-town! So I'll say the Browns Motto..."There's Always Next Year"!...

I narrowed the car search to brands, price range, and size. Now what is the best insurance company out there?

Travelers Insurance I think offers pretty good value for the money. If you're just looking for basic liability you could go with anybody.

I may have to go with the basics when it comes to insurance. I may also buy ramen noodles and donate plasma so I can keep my head above the water. I overdrafted again and it sealed the fate of my summer which never happened and my 2016!
