Default oh why do I have to be English?

As a new member I'd just like to say hello to everyone! Hello!
And to complain....there are many benefits in this world to being English, but being a fan of the Dick Van Dyke show my nationality holds me back. Why? Because the Dick Van Dyke show is not shown in the UK, and as far as I know never has been in my lifetime.

I first saw TDVDS on vacation in the US, and thought it was one of the best TV shows I'd ever seen. Every vacation to the US since has seen me trying to get my fix of TDVDS from Nick at Nite/TV Land, knowing that it will be at least 6 months before I get to see it again! I have to content myself with my meagre video collection of about 20 episodes, my DVD, and by watching Diagnosis Murder!
So be grateful for cable tv reruns, and remember those less fortunate as yourself, such as those in Britain who think of Dick Van Dyke only as a chimney-sweep with an unconvincing Cockney accent!

First of all, let me say welcome to the board. I'm really sorry that you can't enjoy dvd like we can. Do you have family in the US that would tape it for you? In the mean time, why not watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and BYE BYE BIRDIE? Dick van Dyke was in both of those movies, and I'm sure you'd enjoy them.

Thanks for the welcome! No I don't have any family in the US, but I suppose I should count myself fortunate that I do visit the US fairly regularly, and have the chance to tape episodes while I'm there! And I'm slowly building up my collection of US friends so that may be a possibility in the future!

Bye Bye Birdie is also not known in this country; I did manage to catch it on tv once, but ironically that was before I was a DVD fan so didn't think to tape it! But Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is popular here, as is Mary Poppins, so I'll cope! Plus of course I have my copy of Vince Waldron's DVD Show book, and MTM's autobiography (a great read by the way!).

I figured Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would be. It's a shame that Bye Bye Birdie isn't known over there. It's a great little movie. I love Dick van Dyke's character, and the "Put on a Happy Face" scene. So, I guess you'll just have to feast your eyes on all the great pics in your books. But look at it this way. You have so much to look forward to!

By the way, you're lucky. You can watch the Monkees over there, if you have the Trouble channel. Wish I could....so, see, no matter what, everybody likes a show that they can't see.

Ooh, is the Monkees on Trouble?? LOL I'm a huge Monkees fan so I should have known that!! Well, you're right, no-one's going to be perfectly happy! I might add that I Love Lucy hasn't been shown in the UK at all for a few years now... but that's a whole other message board! I'll stop whining and just stick to my little DVD show collection

Well, now you can watch the monkees, lol. =) I'm not sure if they're on right now, but they've been showing them quite a lot. (I've talked to several fans from the uk). It's hard to believe that i love lucy isn't being shown over there. I figured of all classic tv shows, they'd be showing that. But I guess ya'll show your british classics, like the avengers and all that stuff. =)
