Mine was when I accidentally put my lips on a water fountain trying to get a sip of water. I ended up getting strep throat and was coughing non-stop for a whole week

For many years I suffered from psoriasis which in itself is painful but was under control. Then I started getting the arthritis from it (psoriatic arthritis) which was painful but the topper was psoriasis erythrodermic. This is a deadly flareup of psoriasis and rare but I got it two times, summer of 2013 and summer 2015. It would consist of being cold and being hot and sweaty and burning. Last year when I had it my legs got weird and I literally couldn't walk for several days in a row. I couldn't even attend church. I survived but people have died from it because it causes heart failure. This week I am going to a doctor to get medicine to prevent it from happening again. It was no fun wearing sweaters in July.
This was blissful compared to last year. The week before Ash Wednesday I started feeling sick and found out I got a form of strep (not throat). It was so bad I couldn't go to church on Ash Wednesday on the beef dinner the day before. The week later I started feeling better or so I thought. The following week I got extremely sick and once again the psoriasis erythrodermia, only this time it was so severe I ended up in the hospital. I couldn't keep anything down and would vomit. I went back to the doctor and found out I had a serious kidney infection that wouldn't go away. I got medicine and started feeling better but once again got sick with vomiting. I went to the doctor and he started running tests, thinking I had gallstones and liver cancer. Luckily I had neither. My organs were failing and my doctor told me to make a will. He then tried to eat oatmeal and I could keep that down. Otherwise he was going to admit me to the hospital for IV. I started getting better but was still unable to walk and my skin was horrible and peeling to the point where I couldn't even go to Fourth of July's parade. I got medicine and finally was in remission around October. What got me sick? they think a variety of things, for example I worked with kids and they were always getting sick. Plus, I was on medicine that lowered my immune system. Finally, (and not least important) but my mom unexpectedly died in January and I think that triggered me because not only did I lose my mom but a bunch of bullied started harassing me about her and attacking her. |

Getting hospitalized for what was thought to be a heart attack than being diagnosed with anxiety disorder!
Also I had Shingles once!! That was really uncomfortable. Luckily mine was a mild case, I've known other people who had it a lot worse and it can be really devastating! |

I had pink eye when I was about 11. The infection itself didn't bother me as my vision wasn't affected and I felt no pain, but the worst part for me was having to take eyedrops. I've never liked taking eyedrops.
Also, while not an illness, having lice wasn't fun either. I had to wash my hair w/ a special shampoo that smelled horrid. |

When I got chicken pox from my husband who had shingles. It was the most horrible thing I've ever had to go through and I never want to go through it again. They weren't lying when they said that chicken pox is worse as an adult. It was the worst I have ever felt in my life. I started out with a swollen lymph node in the back of my head, then lethargy, nausea, headache, fever, then the spots appeared. Once the spots appeared, I developed a sore throat and my nausea got worse. I couldn't eat anything for days. The sores were the worst I have ever seen. I had them in my scalp, on my tongue, in my ears, on my back, stomach, neck, arms and chest. The only place I didn't have them were my legs and feet. I had to take Benadryl by mouth at night when I went to bed because the bedcovers made me itch and I spent the entire night scratching. Thankfully now that I've had them, I can't ever get them again.
The other thing that I got was cat scratch fever and I was miserable then too. The lymph nodes under my arm pit became swollen and I couldn't use my arm because it hurt so much and I had a mild fever. But I was lucky because some people who get it, get much sicker. I had a very mild case of it but I still felt awful. |

I got the mumps at the age of 8 despite getting an MMR shot!
Why did I get the mumps? |

At age 23 I started having pains in the pit of my stomach. The pain was constant and took hours for it to let up. I had some tests done and found out that I had a large gall stone. I then had surgery to remove the gall bladder. Back then (1974) before microscopic surgeries became the norm I had regular surgery which ended up leaving me with a 6 inch scar in my abdomen area. The gallstone was very painful. I rank it right up there with labor pains!

A few years ago I woke up VIOLENTLY ILL. Every hour
I upchucked uke: at least once. When I FINALLY got better I spotted two things on the kitchen table, a bottle of vodka and an empty bottle of Ambien. I "googled" Ambien and my computer has a mg: HISSY FIT!!! ![]() I considered it a miracle I was still alive, the next morning I had a chat with my doctor and he gave me a new prescription, which I still use today. |

In 2010 I was very sick. I had terrible pain. I couldn't keep anything down. I got down to 109 pounds. After blood work tests and an ultrasound, it was found that I had gal stones. My gal bladder was full of them and I had a gal stone that was blocking my bile duct. Because I didn't seek immediate medical care, I had let it get so bad. I didn't know until I finally went to the doctor. I had to have two surgeries. One was ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) surgery and the second surgery I had was to remove my gal bladder. I had started to go into liver failure and had Pancreatitis. The pain was unbearable. I spent 5 days in the hospital.

I got chicken pox too as an adult (at age 37) and yeah, IT WAS NOT FUN. Fortunately, I had a great doc and he put me great meds and rx'd a great anti-Itching med. |

Wow!! Sorry to all of you that you had to go through these illnesses and sicknesses!
Besides the Anxiety disorder and chest pains, and shingles. I guess the next worse thing was spraining my ankle. It was a bad sprain, (third degree) almost classified as a break! It hurt horribly and my foot swelled up big and square, looked like a flesh colored brick with toes! And just having to be off my feet so long, and feeling helpless ! Actually that probably was worse than the shingles! |

I think two weeks ago I thought I had something that was my appendix bothering me and I was terrified that it might have to be taken out. But thank God it wasn't, otherwise that would have been bad for everyone.

Double pneumonia. Not fun! I've had pneumonia 3x before, but my last bout was the worst. Nothing beats having to sleep sitting upright so your lungs don't fill with fluid and you drown.
Severe pink eye came in a distant second. Not fatal, but my eye was running like an infectious sewer. I literally felt it coming on in the middle of a job interview, LOL. I sincerely hope they burned everything that I touched. |

I don't know if it was the scariest or most uncomfortable, but it was very close: Several years ago in March 2008, I began to have phlebitis where I got these red patches on my legs and my shins began to swell up. This was followed by a series of bizarre itching hives which covered me with little bumps all over. During that week I began to have this need to drink as much juice as possible, I was so thirsty it was crazy.
I went to the doctor, and aside the fact that I had flu-like symptoms, he diagnosed me as having high blood pressure and put me on medication. He also designated me as being morbidly obese and having pre-diabetic conditions. Since then I have brought those things under control to where I have neither. |
