Deadly Demands

I'm watching the newest episode now and it's in my hometown. I lived in a different part of town when this happened, and actually don't remember it, I was too young.

The funny part is I figured out it was in Minnesota, but they were saying Minneapolis. Then they said the guy was on Whitney Dr. I know there are a lot of those in every state, but I just knew it was the one in Apple Valley. AV is a higher end suburb, but it has a pretty shady part, which is Whitney Dr. Sure enough they show the dashcam footage and it says AVPD. Then I laughed when her friend says something like "stuff like this doesn't happen around here". Yes it does, on Whitney Dr. That was one of the trashiest areas of the entire south metro, and if anything was going to happen in Apple Valley that's exactly where I'd expect it to happen.

Funny story. I grew up there with my upper white class friends (that's what AV is made of) in a complete cultural bubble. I made a friend somewhere who lived on Whitney. I was at her house once when her mom wasn't home (of course) at night and she had some of her friends from Minneapolis. One was a white girl who "talked black" (I'm not trying to be offensive, this is just the best way to explain it) but I just thought she had an accent and asked her about it, because I'd never heard anyone talk "urban" like that. Jesus what an embarrassment I was. I was so sheltered. I never hung out with that girl again. Some of her friends were pretty scary.
