Default If Mark had found out about the KISS THAT CURLED BABS'S TOES?

What would have been his reaction? Would it be the same as when it happened with Edith's son. Bob Morton? Indifference? Or would he have gotten weirdly irate like when he defended his emotionally disturbed buddies in The Funny Boys? Different situations, I know, but it was weird how he got so protective over those 2 selfish lunatics.

Also, what do you suppose Ann's reaction was that was apparently cut out of syndication? Did I see cake?

I know there is a LONG thread somewhere here about this episode, but I thought I would start a new one.

Thoughts???

Mark vs. Max for Barbara's affections would have been good story. I mean that storyline literally writes itself. Why they didnt try it, I'll never know.

Cool

mets82, it makes me wish the show had run another season although the audience would be majorly mad if "BARX" actually acted on their feelings, LOL.

If this were a real "bad soap opera" as Grandma put it, Julie would come back and they would swap husbands for awhile.

As much as I enjoy this episode, I want an alternate version where Mark goes ballistic on Max for kissing his wife. Drama ensues...Funny Boys come in to put some rats in Max's car. They jump on him and he swerves into traffic... (Just kidding, Bonnie ) Mark goes to jail. Barbara and Cliff Randall reunite...

Barb finds out he knocked up several more summer campers and throws him out.

A handsome young guy named opus walks into Gonagin Travel...

OMG!!!! Yeah the rats from the neighbors garage, that random line thrown in for Grandma that had nothing to do with the show!!!!!

But seriously ,I think it would have been 100 times worse than the Bob Morton incident!! Three reasons:

1- Mark didn't know Bob ,Max was his brother in law in a close knit family! Wow, remember how Max was so upset when Julie left him, and the family was trying to get Max to stay? Mark said something to Max like he always wanted a brother, and Max was like the brother he never had!!! Mark even wiped a tear off of Max's face!

2- Bob was an old friend from WAY back, before Mark ever met Babs! Bob always worshipped Babs , so it was understandable he could still carry a torch for her, even if she were a married woman and he was a newlywed heading for his honeymoon! Again back to reason #1 ! Max ALWAYS knew Bab's as a sister in law! Him making a pass at Babs was more inappropriate than Bob making a pass at her!

3- Bob didn't turn Bab's on and Max did!! Mark perceived Bob as being a goofball, he would have more to worry about with Max being into Babs than he would with Bob being into her !

If we get into the real emotional side of the situation, would Mark eventually be forgiving of Max knowing he was lonely and vulnerable? How upset would Mark be with Barbara? Would he resent her? And than another thing for discussion, how Mark would find out? I guess it would be the worst if Mark actually caught them kissing? Or if he overheard Barbara & Grandma talking ( I remember first time I saw this ep, and I was on pins and needles thinking Mark would wake up and come down the steps any minute, or it would just show him at the top of the stairs listening without them knowing he was there)!! WHOA!!! Could you imagine???!!!!! Or if Barbara told Mark?

Anyway , I have to go!! I will think about this more and come back later!

As usual, you are spot on in your responses, Bonnie, of course Mark would feel far more betrayed that his "brother" would betray him like this and he would be very, very hurt. I can see Max having "feelings" but kissing his sister in law while the husband was upstairs was just "ew". There should have been a line in the script where he says how much he loves Mark like a brother and is so sorry that he disrespected him like that. I guess giving them the coveted tickets to Mexico was his penance.

The rats thing, LOL. I guess that throwaway line from Katherine must have gotten into my subconscious and I just decided to recycle them, if you will.

BTW, how fantastic was Nanette Fabray in this episode? I loved her line about men having more "turn on switches than a 747".

I wonder why it was co directed by Bonnie F. and Selig Frank? You would think it would only take one person to handle the duties. Still, a very soapy, fun storyline.

First, because I can't help myself- Mark would have tied Max into the dental chair, thrown away the novacaine, and made the inside of his mouth look like the floor of a Kokimo coffee shops' kitchen floor. You all have seen MARATHON MAN, right?

https://youtu.be/kzw1_2b-I7A

Now for the joke answer.

OK, seriously. I obviously won't be as in depth as Bonnie, but after the initial anger, and there better be a lot of initial anger, throwing Fred and Julie in Max's face, Mark comes to realize it was Max's loneliness that made him do it. The two(or three) of them talk it out, and in the end Max and Annie stay.

Now if anyone wants to talk about Mark finding out Barbara liked the kiss, we can have that conversation too...

I'd say either Bonnie wanted the help, or CBS didn't think she could do it on her own. I'm not familiar enough with her previous directing experience. I am amused with the thought of "Ann" behind the camera going, "No Barbara, not like that. Kiss your brother in-law like this..."

That was subliminal. In Max's first episode he invited her to play tennis. Either that, or she wants to make out with Roger Federer.

As for liking it, I'll do it from a guys point of view. If Kate Upton kisses and shows interest in a married man, he's going to like it and be flattered. A happily married man will allow it to go no further. So from my point of view, while Barbara liked it, so had no intention of going any further.

I always thought it was Wimbleton too!! That was funny when Barbara thought Max got mad and didn't want to sit next to her on the couch because she corrected him about Wimbledon!! "OK call it Wimbleton if you want"!

I don't think Barbara would cheat on Mark. She made such a big deal to hold onto her virginity till the wedding night! Mark was her first and only lover! I think with her values it would be so out of character for her to be with another man no matter how much she was attracted to him or enjoyed a kiss ! And her and Mark weren't married very long!

Only way it would have happened would be if Mark was ignoring her, or being mean to her, cheating on her etc. and she was crying on Max's shoulder and he "comforted" her, and it just happened ! Or even say Mark was out of town on a dental convention, Grandma took Annie out for the day. Max and Barbara decided Hey lets open a bottle of wine! Being a little tipsy from the wine, being alone in the house together ,one thing leads to another, they start kissing. THAN I could see getting caught up in the heat of the moment and something more could happen. But for them to plan to go to a hotel or something. No way Barbara would do that! And I don't even think Max could let it go that far. I think he has too much respect for Barbara and for Mark too! And he loves her for her self, her sweetness, he was lonely. He wasn't trying to be with her out of lust!

I was tired when I posted this. It really doesn't make sense!! I was captioning the picture, I didn't mean that had anything to do with the kiss!
